Quakers and hot peppers?

I know that Quaker parrots like peppers. Where I'm from there are many varieties but they are hot. Do Quakers enjoy these, also? Thanks so much.

They usually love them. I know my Cockatoo does and the Quakers that I have raised in the past have eaten chili peppers.

Birds are like small children. Each one has a something they like to eat best and yours may or may not like them.

Peppers do not generally affect parrots or hookbills the way they affect us. Most commercial parrot food mixes offer several dried peppers for variety. Offer your quaker a bit of one and see what happens. He'll either like it or not like it. It won't hurt him.

When we sense the heat in hot peppers we are reacting to a chemical compound called capsicum, birds do not register the sensations from it in the same way.

Every animal is different, dogs do react to capsicum like we do and I had a friend who's dog just loved Dave's Insanity Sauce.

There's no real way to know how the parrot will react until you try it and since there is no harm in givin a pepper to the parrot you might as well try it and find out.

my suns love to eat chillies, a fairly hot variety. Birds do not have taste buds like we do and also have less saliva so it does not burn them.
