  • A sign of depression?

A middle-aged woman I know just shaved her head and wears a scarf over it. She said she was tired of fighting with her hair trying to get it to do what she wanted it to, So she shaved it all off and the scarf is much better all the way around.

I'm leaning toward thinking she is really depressed, but maybe it's a midlife crisis? Any ideas or thoughts welcome.

  • What's with women who like to be considered their husband's property?

My husband was the head of the household, the boss of the home front and had the final word on all decisions. There are never any arguments because he doesn't allow backtalk disrespectful action or words. This works for me. Why do other women and sometimes men find this offensive bordering on abusive? I was born and raised in the USA, as was my husband and both our families. Why do so many people find this to be totally wrong?

  • Is there any denomination where the congregation doesn't sing?

I am terribly uncomfortable when the congregation is expected to sing. I am tone deaf as well as have a breathing condition that doesn't allow the long-winded singing that hymns usually require. I feel like a cheater if I stand and just move my lips and rude if I get up and walk out during the congregational singing, returning afterward to hear the sermon.

Is there a church for me out there somewhere that I can attend church, hear a sermon not be required to participate with something as awkward as singing?

  • Basset question?

I am interested in bassets and am considering getting one. According to what I can find on the Internet, they are reported to be difficult to train - at least require more patience than other breeds. Can any basset owners elaborate on this? When I get one, he/she will be a house pet, so my primary concern is house training.

My information comes primarily from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basset_Hound

  • Landlords, I need help encouraging a tenant to decide to leave...?

I have a tenant that has violated the rental agreement two too many times. I certainly have enough reason to evict him, but would like him to think it is his idea rather than risk evicting him and having him damage my property on the way out. Any ideas how to make him want to move?

  • Ladies and their little dogs?

Why do more and more women have such an emotional attachment to little dogs that go everywhere with them? Seems I am seeing more women, particularly retirement or pre-retirement age that seem lost without their little dogs. Not that it's bad, just wondering if there is a reason for it other than profound loneliness. I have noticed that these women tend to isolate themselves, preferring the company of their dogs over people. Is that healthy?

I know there are a lot of magnets and buttons that say "The more people I meet, the better I like my dog" but is it a sign of a medical condition or mental anguish that is going untreated?

  • attic insulation?

I am short on funds and am trying to insulate my home as inexpensively as possible. Can I insulate my attic with newspapers, then liberally sprinkle baking soda over the papers to act as a flame retardant? If yes, how thick should the newspapers be for best results? A neighbor suggested putting the newspapers down and then stapling plastic sheeting over the papers to act as a moisture barrier. I doubt his knowledge on the subject. Can someone enlighten me?

  • Bin Laden is threatening to turn America into another hiroshima at the end of Ramadan. True or false?

I don't personally think this will happen because terrorists are not in the habit of warning before they attack - otherwise, it is not terrorism. Are there others who believe this will occur?

  • How prepared are you & your family for a national disaster?

The Department of Homeland Security and the US government has been urging us all to be prepared for long-term isolation, self-sufficiency for over a year - storing food and water in the event of war, terrorism or avian flu. How prepared are you? I am ready with 1 full year of food in the pantry, freeze dried foods, alternate means of cooking and fuel storage. Is everyone else taking similar measures?

  • Newspaper Route?

Can someone tell me the pros and cons of having a newspaper route? I'm not referring to the routes held by teens on bicycles, but the larger routes that require an adult with a car.

  • I've been searching for a movie for nearly 25 years...?

It would help if I knew the title...

It was about twin sisters, one was married in the USA and the other was somewhere in Europe and was an art curator or dealer. They reunited, got matching hairdos and then switched places on a whim. One broke her arm (or leg?) during the switch, so they had to extend things a bit.

Then the one in Europe died. The husband attended his wife's funeral thinking it was his sister-in-law.

It was a 2-part TV movie that I only saw the first part of. It was 25 years ago that I saw part one and am STILL thinking about it, wondering what happened.

Can anyone tell me what the title of it was, or who the actors/actresses were? Otherwise, I might go to my grave wondering how it ended...

  • Any armchair theories on why the island on "Lost" is so?

special? Who the "others" really are, why they are there and are so hostile to the survivors of the plain crash? Just curious.

  • Truffle glaze?

I'm looking for a recipe for the icing-like glaze to drizzle over a chocolate liqueur truffle. I found plenty of truffle recipes, but none offer the recipe for the glaze. Anyone here know how to make it?

  • Peanut Butter Fudge?

I'm looking for a recipe for a peanut butter fudge that I recently had that was just awesome! It held together like a champ and had just a wee bit of "skin" when you bite into it, then was so creamy that it just melted in your mouth. I thought my tongue was gonna run away with it! I bought a piece at a convenience store and they would not only not tell me the recipe, but wouldn't tell me who made it, either. It had no label of any kind so am assuming it is made by someone that works there.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Is there an herbal or homeopathic antibiotic?

for infections caused by a cut or scrape? I know an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, but a bit too late for that. Is there an all natural remedy, herbal or otherwise?

  • Wearing pants with the waistband below the bum???

Why do young men wear their trousers and shorts this way - showing all? I am so confused by it. Is it some kind of language, a message? I'm lost. I've asked a couple young men about it and they tell me they've lost weight recently and can't keep their pants up (yeah, right!) so am inclined to believe there is some hidden message here that isn't open to all us old-timers that don't have a clue.

Can someone shed some light on it?

  • Would you rent under following circumstances - if in writing?

Amount of rent is about half the standard amount; landlord will not make any repairs nor replace existing appliances if one fails or stops working; does not do a background check nor base rentability based on income nor credit rating; states renter is responsible for replacing any appliances that fail - and can take them as their own if they ever leave; allows pets; allows renter to modify house with fencing or patio if he/she wants - at his own expense.

I rent out two such properties - houses - and have been told I am breaking the law with this practice. Both are in good areas and neither needs any repairs. I believe in giving the little guy a second chance. Is that such a bad thing? Why or why not? Would you rent a house with these circumstances?

  • online degrees?

Anyone have any personal experience with obtaining an online degree? Did it help you find a job? Was it more helpful to you than just reading text books? Was it useful to you as a personal learning tool or did it actually promote you in your current position or help you in finding a higher paying job?
