just wondering about pit bulls and dangerous dogs?

now why if someone posts about a pit or asking about dangerous dogs they will get several answers, but someone with a genuine question will only get a few? ok now i know i have a question right now about something silly as to which dog is cuter, but it's to settle a silly argument. i admit. but in all seriousness why would people rather spread hateful fear and propaganda about something they know nothing of, just what they've seen on the news, then answer and offer to help someone who really might need it?

It is easier to let someone else make up your mind for you. If is way to hard to go and find out the truth. Case in point, " Pit bull puppy chews off baby's toes. If it had not been a pit you would never had heard what breed it was, you never heard that the mother said it was a ferret, never heard that the woman living next door thought the parents were not even home, the baby was alone, and that the puppy had only a few milk teeth, it was a lot younger than the news said and should have never been away from momma. Lead on the story was PIt bull chews baby toes off. Pit Bulls attack more people than any other breed." Bite statistics actually show otherwise. More popular breeds that are generally considered to be "nice dogs" top the majority of lists. It may seem to the general public who is constantly bombarded with disturbing reports on Pit Bull attacks that this is the only breed that harms humans with any great regularity. However, the fact remains that Pit Bulls are hot news items. Dogs of all breeds and mixes bite and attack people all the time, but it is mainly the Pit Bull bites that get sensationalized. A report about the local Golden Retriever that attacks and maims a child isn't considered newsworthy. No one wants to believe that any dogs--even the fuzzy, cute, popular ones--are capable of biting. It's much easier to blow up and sensationalize a story about a vicious dog when it's a member of a breed who's reputation preceeds it. Pit Bulls are already considered the demons. All the reporters have to do is stand in front of the camera, look horrified, and say, "A Pit Bull did it".

The APBT happens to be my favorite breed of choice. The media has destroyed anything that's good about this breed.Anything that says Pit Bull attack makes the news .No one ever hears about Pits that are sar dogs(such as Christine Crawfords dogs ,Dakota , Cheyenne , and Tahoe) you'll never hear of the work they've done saving peoples lives ,or Pits that work in the law enforcement field as drug detection dogs( such as Neville , Popsicle , and the other Pits in the program being trained) , or therapy dogs . These types of dogs don't make the news . It ruins the stereo type of the demon dogs.People like to believe these dogs are only good as evil killing machines when it's so far from the truth.I've owned this breed for 19 years ,5 dogs in total . My dogs are loving members of my family. Not tied to a tree in the back yard ,where they would be unloved and unsocialized. This is where you get aggressive problem dogs , plus products of poor breeding , or severe abuse.I mean there are also dogs born unstable to.Right now this breed is being way over bred by so called breeders breeding just to make a quick buck ,then selling these poor illbred puppies to any one who comes along with money. The mother dog is kept in squallor conditions unloved and unsocialized as just a breeding machine. It's sickening.Lets stop this type of abuse instead.

I believe it's human nature not wanting to open up your mind to hearing good things about something .I think humans want to be narrow minded and believe only the bad things the media spews. You'll never hear news reports instead of how Pits are being abused and over bred and the conditions the mother and pups are kept in.You will hear reports of dog fighting because it adds to the devil dog hype.

Pit bulls are only mean if they are raised to be mean, usually. If they come from a line of fighters they are naturally going to be a mean dog. Also, the same goes with Doberman's, as they grow their scull does not grow. This causes the scull to cause pressure on the Medula Oblongata area of the brain. This area is the fight or flight and aggressive part of the brain. Some of them turn mean because of this and they ARE natural fighters. Pit's are called "pit" bulls because they were bred to fight in dog pits, sport for money. Dobermans were originally used as war dogs in the medieval times, both are naturally aggressive animals. This is why there is fear. I would not own either, as a I watched a pit bull, that was a neighbors, loving, family pet, tear an 8 year old child apart, she did not survive the attack!

Cagney, for the second time this morning, you are correct. A serious question will get 2 answers and a stupid one will get 74. As far as dangerous breeds go, and I have said this before, we need to accept the fact that some breeds of dogs were bred for a specific reason, whatever that is, and we need to live with that. Pits were bred to fight bulls in the ring, that is what they are good at. People have put that quality in them, the "heart" if you will to hang on till the end, and then they complain when the dog acts the way he was bred to act. Then you have the idiots that want one of them for a show and the other idiots who want one to fight. Well, all those wants will bring in all the crap breeders with their crap dogs who will breed to suplly the demand placed on the market, and will breed without any consideration of anything, except money. Never mind the crap dogs that were just produced that will end up in someones home and cause a problem like we see in the news. Then we have the "others" that claim that all dogs are born "angels" and it is only the owners that make them into "demons". Well, I have been into me breed for 27 years and I have never had an "angel" of a dog. I went into this with MY EYES OPEN. I knew what I was getting into, I NEVER ASKED THE BREEDERS TO CHANGE THEIR DOGS FOR ME. I never said I wanted a water down version of that breed. That is what is pissing me off. UNDERSTAND what you are getting into, not all breeds are "happy go lucky dogs" there are dogs out there today with the drive and desire to cause harm to a human, if left unchecked. CHECK IT. DO not be an idiot and invite a disaster into your home and life. And do not ask breeders to "tone down" the breed simply because you want to. Look at the shepherds here today and tell me about it. Not a decent working dog among them. I do not mean to offend the sport crowd here, but, sport and real life are worlds apart. Now I will get off my soap box.

because I have real life expierience with this okay here goes ,A friend of mine had a pit and I lived with them until the time of the incident . He raised this pit with kindness and love . Then one day it went after some lady minding her own business . this pit went through the window screen . No body had to set this dog off it just went crazy . That lady had 17 bites before my friend could get out the door . These dogs were not meant to be pets they are bred for one thing and one thing only and that is to fight . Needless to say my friend had to put his dog down and rightfully so . any owner who has a dog that attacks someone should be responsible enough to put it down . so dont tell me people are letting the media influence them . No way I witnessed this terror first hand . Nope sterlize them and let the breed die out .good luck .

All dogs can do damage, if your dog can not be good around other people or dogs as you walk by on the street then it should have a strap muzzle piece and maybe a body harness for better control. They are family but we need to protect them as much as we protect others with respect. Then in a safe free zone park maybe let your dog run to let some energy out and get tired then when you get back home puppy will have a nice dream when it sleeps. After all they are part of your family. p.s. we all should wash our friends paws after being out as well they lick their paws and you don't know what they stepped in, you don't want them to be sick.

Because people are sheep & get all hyped up by the most recent media report of a dog attack. As soon as there has not been an attack reported for a week or so, all the "Pit Bull/Rottwelier/insert current 'bad dog' breed here" Q & A's die down...till next time.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of the media reported 'killer breeds' go on living their peaceful lives with their families in blissfully media-ignored obscurity.

Darlin', it is terrible to state but this is the nature of the beast (human that is ) We would rather read a headline about a baby being mauled by a Poodle than read one about a Rott' saving a life or a Pit who carries the neighbor kids on his/her back. Shameful.

There are good dogs and there are bad dogs. I do not believe there are good or bad breeds just "bad Press" for certain breeds.

Pit bulls are only loyal to their owners. They want to dominate everything else. My ex neighbors raised two of them and they taught them to kill everything in their path. So the neighbor's moved and left them behind. And they were terrorizing the neighborhood and killing peoples pets. The dog catcher was even scared of them and he owned two and would not pick them up. And the police wouldn't do anything either. So the neighbor hood had to step in and eliminate them. There was so many small children around outside playing and they were a danger to them. But i wouldn't trust any dog around young children. They just don't mix.
