I'm thinking of moving to the Muskegon / Grand Haven area...?

Any suggestions about good locations to live, how is the area? Is it trashy, or is it a nice place to live...any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Muskegon has nice parts and not-so-nice parts. Grand Haven is much nicer, in general.

My mom graduated from Muskegon Heights H.S. and much of her family still lives there. It is a great location for Lake Michigan fun! The beaches are nice. There is a paper mill in Muskegon that gives the town a distinctive odor- this would take some getting used to. And like any city of that size there will be some bad areas of town that are "trashy" but there are nice areas also. If you are not used to lake effect snow, you will need to get some lessons in driving in the winter as well. Muskegon has been around for many years and the locals are proud of their community just like anywhere else. Muskegon was home to the great Reverend Jimmy Baker (t.v. evangelist - wife Tammy Faye who always wore too much makeup?!) who got of prison a few years back after serving time for illegal transactions in his ministry.

If you do move there and meet anyone with the last name of Tietsort, tell them their cousin from Indiana says hello!!

Hey! Welcome. Muskegon is not very nice although they are building up outside of the city which is new and decent but Grand Haven is MUCH nicer. It is alot more expensive. Did you secure work in the Muskegon area? If not, come down to Grand Rapids. 2nd largest city in Michigan and a wonderful city.

P.S. The papermill in Muskegon that the first person wrote about is now closed. Sappi Paper.
