Kind of freaked out, What does this dream mean?

I dreamed my wedding band broke and fell off! I was at somebody else's house (whom I didn't know) and they had all these weird kids and they wanted me to stay for dinner, but I was just trying to get out of there and go home. Then my wedding band broke in 3 places and just fell off my finger - as if it had rusted.

For you amateur dream analysts out there: The house they lived in was actually an apartment that closely resembled the home of a childhood friend. It was on a rural street - also similar to the street I lived on as a child. I did not recognize the strange family who wanted me to stay for dinner. I did sense hostility from the wife, however and it seemed everytime I turned around, they had another teenaged kid they were introducing to me. I did not want to stay for dinner because of the wife's hostility and the feeling that they did not have enough food to go around.

What does it all mean?? I am most disturbed about the wedding ring part.

Update:

Happily married so far as I know,,,,

How is your marriage? Perhaps therapy would be a good idea.

If you're marriage is not going well, you subconsciously know that's it's (maybe) over. In your dream, your ring symbolized the marriage, the rust symbolizing the deteriorzation of it.

The apartment was a manifestation of your desire to go back, before the marriage, to a time and place where you would not have experienced the marriage, therefore escaping the inevitible pain and anguish that comes from divorce/seperation.

The hostile wife may indeed represent you. If you are in denial about any marital woes, you may have hostility towards your spouse, perhaps blaming him for any troubles that have erupted between the two of you.

Do you have children? If not, is it a source of contention between the two of you? If so, then the strange children could represent the children you don't have but wanted.

Dreams are interpreted taking into account ones life / experiences / background / etc. The most appropriate person to interpret your dream is you!

Don't forget though that there are many kinds of dreams! I'll give you a few examples:

There are times when you just dream mixed up episodes of your daily life (persons, places you've visited, actions, movies that you've watched etc).

Other dreams reveal what is hidden in your subconscious (things like hidden desires, fears, censored feelings etc). This is another good way of analyzing yourself.

There are also premonitory dreams and dreams about past events (ones you knew nothing about).
