The Westside Inn on the Upper West Side is okay. About $55-60 a night but the rooms are small and you have a community restroom on each floor. I didn't mind it because I was in NYC to go places, not to hang out in the hotel room. Ya know what I mean..Its on 107th near the corner off Broadway. I guess the price and quality all depends on the reason you're going to New York.

On The Ave hotel has good reviews on Expedia. Next time I go there, that's where I'll stay. If you don't mind a hostel, there are plenty of those also. But they have really bad reviews.
