scratches on cd's how to remove them?

The best way I have found to make them play is to Pledge them with regular pledge it polishes them. Otherwise A little bit of toothpaste on a clean smooth peice of fabric and a little water, work the toothpaste in small circles and apply more when needed. Make sure to put the toothpaste on the fabric first. And only use just regular toothpaste, nothing that has any bleaching agent, such as toothpaste that says anything about a whiter smile. Then after you do that then pledge them. It works to buff out the scratches and it works pretty well!

The BEST thing I found has been Car Wax.

The ones that are designed to hide the scratches in the paintwork.

I've saved at least 10 discs this way.

Use a little on a very (and I mean very) soft cloth and rub it in, then leave it for 30 minutes or so.

Then with a very (remember, very) soft, clean and dry cloth, buff it off!

You might need to repeat a couple of times but the wax goes a long, long way!

Insert into the drive and/or player and enjoy.

It certainly is possible to repair scratches from discs!!

Like other people have said, you can buy a Disc Doctor (just google/yahoo they are easy to find) that will remove small to medium scratch depths, however if they are bad scratches or you don't want to invest in a Disc Doctor, or not confident doing it yourself etc..

You can send the disc away for professional repair. The best service in the US is http://www.rubberdisc.com./ Go to the website on the top menu highlight 'disc repair' the click 'request mailer', when this arrives pop your disc in, post it, and your done. The cost is $3 a disc, and $4 return shipping(does not increase if you send more than one disc), they will inspect, repair, test and return your discs within 48 hours of arrival.

Similar machines can be found at many of the larger game/music retail outlets however i have found the results to not be quite as good.

Well, you cannot totally remove a scratch, but depending on how bad it is, you can do this so it won't skip. It's weird, but I've tried it. Try putting a little lotion on it and wiping it clean with a soft cloth. It has to be white (non-colored) lotion though. Anything pure is better. Or I heard a little toothepaste works too. But only the white kind. These are little home remedies in case you don't want to spend a whole bunch buying products and 'disc doctors'.

You cannot remove scratches from cds, but scratches shouldn't result in not being able to play the cd (unless there are tons). If your cd is not playing I would clean it with a gentle cloth and some alcohol and see if that helps.

there is a product that u rub on the cd with a cloth that gets out small scratches. Otherwise, goto a used cd store, or even a video store, they have machines that they put the cd in to buff out the scratches.

I cant say about visible scratches I am afraid. But if they are just jumping try (as I have done many times), with a gentle sponge and normal washing up liquid, wipe the shiney side of the CD and again with a gentle non-fluffy cloth, dry it.

You can go out and buy DiskDoctor like a person has said or you can walk to your bathroom and take the tooth paste (not gel) and put a dab on the c/d and rub it in then clean off the c/d.

goto walmart. find this little contraption called a "disk doctor". its a little device that actually sands down the surface of the disk removing scratches and what not. it works wonderfully and you can use it over and over again. it'll take a disk that absolutely will not run and make it like new.

they do make a kit just for that,, i took some of my older scratched disc's and ripped them in my PC via media player,, and lo and behold even the ones that wouldn't play in a regular player, did rip to the PC ( even the ones i could literally see spots of light thru:) and just burned new ones,, hope that helps
