About creating a partition.. healp please..?

I want to create a partition for windows vista using partition magic. if i create a new partition there's something i dont understand. the extended and the logical partition. whats the difference and whats the use of that 2. can i install an OS in extended partition? what about logical? healp please

    Well, you have your primary, extended and logical partitions.

    You can have 4 primary partitions on a drive. If you wish to boot from this drive, you must mark one of them 'active'.

    Extended partitions remove the 4 partition limit.

    Basically, your logical partitions sit 'inside' of the extended partition.

    Take into account how computers assign drive letters in this order:

    physical drives, primary partitions, logical partitions.

    The extended partition does not get a drive letter since it is basically a container for the logical partitions.

    You can install an operating system on a logical partition. It just has to boot from a primary partition, meaning the boot files have to be on the primary partition.

    first thing you should check is wether vista will allow dual boot, if memory serves it wont but check anyway because my memory aint what it used to be
