God, seems like all these people are trying to scare the **** out of you.... don't worry, the pain is caused by the growing uterus, for me it used to be so bad in the beginning that I had to put an ice pocket on it.... unless the pain is accompanied by bleeding, you are fine.

Is it normal to have some abdominal pain during pregnancy?
Occasional abdominal discomfort is a common pregnancy complaint, and while it may be harmless, it can also be a sign of a serious problem. (Severe or persistent abdominal pain should never be ignored.)
Below we'll describe the most common causes of abdominal pain and discomfort during pregnancy, but don't try to diagnose yourself. If you experience abdominal pain or cramping along with spotting, bleeding, fever, chills, vaginal discharge, faintness, discomfort while urinating, or nausea and vomiting, or if the pain doesn't subside after several minutes of rest, call your practitioner.

If the pain is severe, yes, you should call your doctor. It could also be this: the hormone Relaxin is released during pregnancy to relax the pelvis and allow enough room for the baby to pass. This hormone also relaxes the rest of your joints, especially your hips and lower back.

If you're worried - call the doctor. BUT - I remember having sharp pains all of a sudden (early on) because it was the stretching your ligaments have to do in order to accomodate the growing baby. I don't know if it was THAT early on - but I do remember some pains.

See your doctor... it might not beanything, or it could be something serious like an ectopic pregnancy (embryo groing inside your fallopian tube). Besides, you should be seeing your doc pretty regularly at this point.
