    Here goes:

Your question is kind of difficult to answer. Here's why:

An ideal Machiavellian (is that right? Machiavellio? Machiavellite?) rules not only with a Darth Vader style tyranny, but mixes force with deception and political guile.

Here's why that matters: If we are able to point at a world leader and say "That dude's been reading Machiavelli," then he's Not Doing a Very Good Job at following Machiavelli's advice.

If there's someone out there who is following Mach to a T, and is Good At It, then we'd never know, we'd never see him or her - only his/her agents, representatives.

Do you see why it is a tricky question?

    (But for my money? Coulter.)

Well Bush doesn't make the grade but the man in Moscow does.

Vladimir Putin and has long experience in Kremlin politics.

He is the ultimate chess player in that you could never guess

what he is thinking.I don't there are any around in America today although Bush senior might have a little that way.

Now if you allow me to mention the Prime Minister of Australia

John Howard he wins hands down. This politician does it so well

that the voters hate him but every time guess who gets over the line.

In fact I made a mistake here he should be number one.

Source(s): He even had the nickname Honest John.Promised his friend Costello that if he won power after three elections he would retire.Made the promise in front of reporters. When the time came said the promise wasn't specific then won the election.

You give them too much credit. For any politician to be truly Machiavellian they have to be subtle and good at their manipulations. Today's politicians use brute force to ram through their positions, any idiot could do that. He would cringe at today's "leaders."

take your choice! the easy definition for machiavellian is: whatever it takes to wield power and control over everyone and everything, including murder. by that definition what leadership types in any large organization--governmental, industrial, religious, could be ruled out, especially the politicos? ;-) corruption and violence, bloated egos and psychopathic agendas are the way of life for these people. have you noticed any philosopher-kings around? ;-)

appears like a school question. yet definite, i do not imagine maximum modern pols are very non secular. See the present testimony of Bush administration officials that few of their variety believed in God and they did not like the evangelicals a lot. EDIT -- See also a similar testimony from Peggy Noonan about the Reagan administration, that her fellow workers believed interior the Church yet no longer in God.
