The new IE 7 is safer than IE6, Firebox??

You mean Firefox, and yes Firefox is probably safer because more malicious software is targeted to IE users.

BUT, you are still at risk for viruses, etc if you don't have antivirus, firewall, or anti spyware software on your computer.

Brian Krebs at the Washington Post's Security Fix blog wanted to put together some statistics on how long it took major software providers to fix vulnerabilities last year. He started with Microsoft, and found that Internet Explorer was vulnerable to critical flaws for a total of 284 days. That's more than 9 months.

In fact, there were at least 98 days when Microsoft had not issued a fix even though criminals were actively exploiting some of those flaws to grab personal data from Internet Explorer users.

Krebs says he ran his data by Microsoft before posting it on the blog, and that aside from some minor issues, the company didn't bring up anything that would change the overall finding.

By comparison, Firefox was only vulnerable to a serious security threat for one 9 day period last year. What's interesting is that for 2006, Opera 8 and Opera 9 didn't suffer from a single extremely critical vulnerability as classified by Secunia (although both did suffer a single highly critical vulnerability).

Yes, Firefox is both faster and safer than Internet Explorer. For a number of reasons that I will not detail here, Bill Gates and Microsoft are at the top of the hackers' hit parade. Any Microsoft application will always be more of a hacking target than an open source application such as Firefox.

In side-by-side tests, I have determined that Firefox is faster than IE, both in startup and the loading of pages.

If you actually get a response to this...

Its going to be a BIASED Opinion.

Fan Boys fail to understand that everything depends on the share market.

Back in 1996, Netscape was the greatest thing ever, yet it was full of flaws as well.. Then came the re-invention of Internet Explorer....and Since internet explorer had very little market share...nobody would even bother to write spyware or viruses to attack Internet Explorer...

Now...Firefox is around the Corner....It has little market share..therefore...If I was a virus/SPyware writter, I would attack IE, since more than 80% of computer operators use IE...

Why would I want to write something for Firefox? It is a waste of time.....

What do you think Could happen the day FIREFOX gains the greatest market share?....Everyone is going to Bash on Firefox....

Fanboys can be so ignorants...Talk about Logical Fallacy... :P

PS: Yes, on my website I advertise FIREFOX, just because it is what pays my bills right now...

As long as Internet Explorer is the most common browser then this is the one that hackers and the like are going to exploit the most - make sense really.

Same reason why Windows PC's are much more vulnerable than Macs. Not because the software is better or worse but because it's targetted much more often.

I use both IE and Firefox, never noticed any difference in speed.

Firefox doesn't allow ActiveX, which many sites use, both malicious and innocent. If you're careful, IE is just as safe. IE has been targeted more because of its dominant market share, but as Firefox has grown in popularity and hackers have shifted to trying to attack thousands of computers rather than millions so as to stay under the radar of the security industry, attacks targeted at Firefox have increased.

The new IE7 and the new Firefox are both stable and safe. Some features may exist in 1 that isn't in other. I have used IE7 and its nice. Srry I can tell u anything about Firebox never used it.

    Absolutely

Source(s): I was a die-hard IE fan until just recently...... I had to switch to Firefox while I repaired some stupidity that got into IE 7.0 I use both now, but I actually use Firefox more and more

I don't for either of the questions.

A lot of people have been saying that hackers have finally realized that it's easier to hack into firefox as opposed to IE.

Plus, IE goes faster for me.

Firefox is safer, but at a price. It is also weaker. For your average, run-of-the-mill internet user, Firefox will suffice.
