My radio tuner is broken or could it possibly be an antannae problem?

I have a Sony Car radio that is several years old -- model CDX-ca650x. I believe my Tuner is broken. Stations sometimes fade out and when i change the station, i still here the same station that it was on very faintly. Then the station totally fades out and then i get no radio reception for days ... and then it all of the sudden works again.

The fact that when i change the station i sometimes faintly hear the old station makes me believe it must be my tuner correct?

The CD player works 100% of the time even when the tuner decides not to.

The other question i have is since it is a detachable face, is it possible for me to just be a new face and not have to install a whole new radio?

Update:

My antenae is in the front on my hood. It is not a power antenae

now what you do in this case is check the antenna. if it is a power antenna turn your radio on to am frequency go to the antenna and tap on it if you hear static as you tap on the antenna if is a break on the antenna mast(the part that goes up and down) you could buy replacement mast at any pep boys or car parts store. if you do not have a power antenna check the connection at the antenna usually at back fender. if none of these work have a shop or repair center chek tuner and connection behind radio. have these checked out before you buy a new radio. and their is no need to buy the faceplate itself.
