If a half a hole is 1 square yard, how many holes then to fill a hole measuring 51.5 square yards?

    1 hole...it just has to be that big!

    There's no such thing as half of a hole, and even if there was the measure would be one of volume not area, thus the correct answer would be 1 hole that is 51.5 cubic yards. (And no that is not semantics, it's geometry.)
