I am looking for a bible quote(s) that imply "Got helps those who help themselves." Anyone have one?

I am working with an individual who is always behind in his work and it affects others. He doesn't get paychecks out on time and this dramatically affects everyone's lives (as you can imagine). He is always trying to give people religious advice like it or not. There are plenty of people who aren't religious but are good workers and generous, kind people but he's on their backs that they aren't religious enough.

If someone asks about the irregularity of the pay, he tells them they should pray and they'll get salvation. Pray? When he isn't doing his job and that's why they are suffering? He thinks that by praying he'll get his job done faster when he doesn't actually do his job and blows his time not working. Yet, he feels he's above reproach but he is the source of suffering.

Anyway, I'm looking for the equivalent quote(s) to toss his way and make him see that if he doesn't put forth effort, he can't blame God that his job isn't getting done.

Location of quote too please.

Update:

Yes, I know "Got helps those..." is not in the bible. This is why I posted.

Update 2:

Again, read my question. I know this isn't a quote that's why I asked for a similar quote.

Update 3:

I know he's a problem in the workplace. I'm an independant contractor so I'm not a regular employee. Once I'm done there, he'll still be there harassing people and telling them that they can pray and sit back and do nothing and their lives will be good. It's not right. No deity would tell people to sit back and do nothing and expect God to do it all for them. That's just common sense.

There are many references to this fact in the Bible, however one of my favorites is the parable of the talents -- the master gives to each a different quantity of abilities and expects the same yield with respect to what they were given. That is, the two servants that doubled what they were given were regarded as useful while the one that buried his talent was a slog.

I like the quotes from Luke and Romans that Suzanne mentioned!

You need to find another job. If this is going on, there is no future there.

Be careful. I was in a similar situation. I live in GA. When I called the Labor Dept. about this, I was told that I should be careful because I could get fired and not be paid my full wage. In GA, they do not have to pay you more than minimum wage for your last week of work.

Remember, it is not your job to save the world. Nothing you SAY to this person is going to change him. Try to use legal routes.

"God helps those who help themselves" isn't in the Bible. However, there are two verses you can quote to him:

Jesus said at Luke 10:7b: "the laborer is worthy of his wages." (Paul also quotes this at 1 Timothy 5:18b.)

Paul wrote at Romans 4:4 "Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt."

If these don't work, you can tell him you'll report his failure to pay you on time to the government. The practice of withholding wages is illegal.

    Acts 20:35

"In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

There actually isn't a verse in the Bible that says that. Is there a person you can talk to above him to get this problem to stop? That's just inappropriate.

There is no such quote in the Bible

The Bible, in fact, says just the opposite . . . that God helps those who can not help themselves

Be straight forward with this person - pull no punches!

    Tell him the truth

You're dealing with a person who uses religion to hide his shortcomings. He's not who he pretends to be. As for the scripture you're referencing. That's not a biblical scripture. It goes more like this: He answer's those who call upon His name.

The bible never says or implies that. Why doesn't this guy get fired?

It's not in the bible, that's from one of Aesop's fables.
