Is it legal for a parent to open their child's mail?
Im 14 and my mother keeps opening letters sent to me by my boyfriend when she knows I consider it a major invasion of privacy. isn't this still agaist the law regardless of the fact that Im a minor?
she has no reason to suspect anything. my bf is 14, she has met him and knows him, we have been together for about a year.....she is just being nosy.

Until you reach legal age, your parents are responsible for your every action. They, in turn, have the right to open your mail, go through your things, etc to ensure your safety.
You may consider it an invasion of privacy; your mother considers it good parenting.

Yep it is, as long as you are a minor and living under her roof.
sorry.
but that doesn't make it right. it is rude to invade someone else's privacy.
unless she suspects you or your bf are doing something illegal or your bf is over 18, then she should just leave it alone.
it would tick me off if that was being done to me.

I dont think it is illegal unless you are 16 or 18. I dont want to say that they have all the control over you, but they do have the right to invade your privacy as long as they are provding you with food, housing, clothers...etc. I mean they are doing it just to protect you, and they care about you. :D

Its not against the law & if it was what would you do? Call the police? Do you give your Mom reason not to trust you? If you are doing nothing wrong she has no reason to snoop & shouldnt.

Legally, she can.
But I would rather she would discuss it with you and you could work out an agreement.
Good luck.

no I don't think it's against the law until you're gonna be legal...(then, I acknowledge it can be really annoying...)
