Why do I still have pain & swelling around my tooth?

I had several teeth pulled about 2 weeks ago & a denture put in. I am unable to wear them cause my gum is swelled & sore, only around one tooth. It hasn't closed up like the rest of them. The gum has humps on both sides of the hole where my tooth was. Can anyone help...PLEASE!

I think the best thing to do is let your dentist/oral surgeon know...wouldn't they be the best with this advice? I wouldn't suggest walking around too long without their advice, the denture will never fit correctly if you're not wearing it due to pain. The first 'denture' they give you after ext's acts as a bandaid...it should be worn. Call 'em up.

Ah, I used to work at a prosthodontic office. Could be several things, one being an infection. If it is red and swollen, then it most likely is infected. The tissue might also be rejecting the tooth. Go back to your dentist, he will first prescribe an antibiotic and take x rays.

It sounds as if you have a fragment remaining. The pain you are describing doesn't sound like dry socket (thankfully!). But I would call your dentist asap and get in there to let him\her take a look.

Sounds like it's infected. Go see a doctor.

it sounds like you have an infection. go back to the dentist and have him look at it. if it's infected, he can prescribe some antibiotics for you. in the meantime, start rinsing with warm, salted water.

try not eating around that area or letting ANYTHING irritate it at all for several days, eventually it will get better
