How do I remove the starter motor from a '79 Fiat?
I think the darn thing has siezed and I want to give it a clean. I do not have access to a full garage or car stands, so I want to get at it from the top. The car is pre-fuel injection with a single 34" Weber carb.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
From the top, remove the spade connector (ignition switch wire) and the positive battery cable from the solenoid.
From the bottom (you may not have to jack up the car if there's enough clearance) remove the 3 long bolts that hold the starter motor to the bell housing. The other end of the negative battery cable may attach under the middle bolt.
Remove the motor from the housing. Inspect the flywheel for broken teeth. Put the transmission in the highest gear, push the car forward and make sure the engine turns (i.e., that it's not the engine that's siezed!).
