How can I transfer photos, music, docs from my old Windows 98 laptop to my new one?

I have many photos, music files and documents on my old Windows 98 laptop that I want to transfer onto my new laptop.

It does not have a cd-rw drive so I cannot copy them onto cd.

I tried inserting my usb memory stick but it would not accept/recognise it.

What can I do? I don't want to lose all my files. Thank you.

ethernet connection between the two - one ethernet cross-over cable and file sharing enabled. Make sure you change the network name on the 98 machine to MS Home.

Have the same problem w/WIN 98 installed on a WIN 2000 machine (DELL laptop 5000e) w/ USB which somehow stopped working, and now recently floppy drive and CD drive not working, All 3 not working. It doesn't have a ethernet connection just a phone connection. Need to somehow connect it to my WIN XP PC without getting or using online. The DELL doesn't have a socket for ethernet connecters.

beset way would be to put in on a network with some CAT5 or CAT5E cable...cheap at the stores

connect the two computers together or with a splitter and all that and use a shared folder

im not sure of the setup, my brother did it all for me but now im all setup forever...youll get some helpful advice from others

the memory stick is a good way...you should try installing the drivers for it if its not working.(they are found at the site that is marked on the card)...like Kensington

  • Umm.... Could you try emailing them over? And then opening and saving it on your new laptop?!

A bit time consuming if there are loads, but I can't think of anything else, as you can't use a CD or USB, and floppy discs don't hold much info.

network them together, connect their ethernet ports by a crossover cable (a regular CAT5 twisted pair with one pair of wires at one end reversed)

Well if your old computer has a burner burn them to a disk if it doesn't hook up your old computer to the internet & e-mail your files to your e-mail address & then just go into your e-mail address on your new computer & download them.

Try using a crossover cable........not too expensive and instructions for using them are all over the net.
