Which number is greater?

I bet that the majority of people get this wrong. I find the answer quite fascinating

Which of these is true

choice a:

.999999999999 < 1

Choice b:

_____________

.999999999999 = 1

Choice c:

_____________

.999999999999 > 1

For those that do not know,

________

.99999999 the bar over the number means that the 9s go on infinitely and never stop ... it is a repeating decimal

    okay.. here we go. choice a is correct.

    because.. if you multiply each side by 10, you'll get 9.9 and 10, which means 1 is bigger. sorry, not a good explanation.. but definitely the right answer.

    it was an extra credit question on my calc test last semester.

    I've always thought that it was A, but my friend asked me and said she thought it was B, so I still think it's A, but who knows.
