dinner ideas for 600 +/-calories?

I am trying to eat approx 1400 cal a day - getting the majority of my calories in before dinner. I would like some ideas for dinner that are approx 600 calories - I'm tired of chicken breast. peas, brown rice and milk every night!

Try the following websites for ideas:

    www.cookinglight.com

    www.allrecipes.com

They both contain nutritional values and calories at the end of each recipe. :] Happy cooking!

600 calories?? Sheesh, that seems kind of high to me for just one meal. Even the meal you just described should have less than 600, unless you're using really big portions, skin on the chicken breast, and/or whole milk.

Might I suggest buying a "calorie-counter" book and checking it out? You really do have a lot to choose from, there's no reason to eat the same thing every night.

You can also check out calorie counters online, one site to try is http://www.calorieking.com/

Hungry-girl.com is also really good and fun, if you like prepackaged foods.

I also agree with the guy who answered before me--try a vegan diet, save the poor chickens! I recently made the switch and it's awesome. Just be careful about peanut butter! ;)

Didn't really answer your question but I hope it helps anyway! :)

Forget the milk. Mankind is the only animal on the planet that imbibes milk from another animal regularly. Eat more vegetables with stir-fried tofu. Become a total vegetarian and stay healthy forever. Cut out all junk foods and sodas(soda is the major cause of osteoporosis in women because of the sugar and carbonation and diet soda contains no soda only chemicals) Check Oriental foods out. Not only are they healthy but are cheaper in the long run than normal vegetables. Also think about adding fruit to your meals either mixed in with the vegetables, like Mandarin oranges or separately. Your body will thank you in the long term long run.

In an effort to eat healthier, I found and made this recipe the other day. It's pretty good - and fills you up. I was able to also get 3 lunches out of it (I froze the leftovers in 3 packets). Cook 1/2 box of pasta (I used penne but the recipe called for cannelloni). In a pan, heat 1/4 cup of chicken stock or water. Saute chopped onion (1/4 of a large onion) and garlic (2 cloves) in the chicken stock for about 5 minutes. Add 1/2 can of chopped tomatoes to the chicken stock/onion/garlic mixture. Simmer for 10 minutes. Add 1 can of great northern beans (after you drain and rinse them) to the chicken stock mixture. Simmer for 10 minutes. I added a little bit of water to the pan when I added the beans so they wouldn't burn. Put your cooked noodles in a bowl. Top with your chicken stock/tomato/bean mixture. This was really good - I didn't need to add any salt to taste.
