Where is the dipstick to check the transmission fluid on a 1997 Toyota Camry?

I bought a 1997 Toyota Camry,I need to know where the dipstick is to check the transmission fluid. I have the owners manual. I can't find that information in there. Any help would appreciated

Update:

It has an automatic transmission.

Update 2:

If I have the hood open, and am facing the car from from the front, is it on the left or right side?

Update 3:

I don't know much about cars.

Update 4:

Thanks JB

I checked it and it is not pink, it's sorta brownish. I don't know much about cars, but I do know the fluid needs changed. I will have it changed asap.

Someone should write a book called CAR REPAIR SERVICE MANUAL FOR BLONDES. LOL....Thanks again for your help.

on a 97 camry, the dipstick is going to be in the front.as you are stnding in front of car, hood open,it will be on the right side.more towards the center.it will have a red/orange handle.you can check on level ground, engine sitting for a few hours.the level will be at the lower check notches.Toyota uses a hot and a cold check set of notches, two different sets.sometimes the dip stick will be hard to reinsert, just turn it 180 if it is.

    -

    -cold engine,level ground,remove dipstick

-clean with paper towel or rag

-reinsert and remove again and check,it should be b/t the two notches for cold.if so do not add any more dexron 2 fluid.

=if any doubt go to a service station, shop and ask them to point it out, they may even check it for you.you refill it through the dip stick tube, you will need a funnel.do not over fill it.

    good luck

    1997 Toyota Camry Manual

The automatic transmission fluid level dipstick is most likely in the back of the engine bay (closest to the windshield) and the top of it is either metal or red plastic. Remember to have the car started, and running (IN PARK!) while checking the AT Fluid level to get an accurate reading.

look in your manual it will most likely have how to check the level of your transmission fluid, and yes you can add it through the dipstick.

If your car is an automatic, the dipstick is located between the engine and the firewall, and is colored either yellow or red. If you have a 5sp/manual, there is no dip stick.
