Well it all depends on the extension..
While most compressed files are compressed using WinZip and would have an extention of .zip There is a free download of WinZip a www.download.com, Install it and open the file using winzip...
Most MS windows have this extraction program already incorporated in thier OS so all you have to do is right click on it and select extract..
Ok.. So what if it is another extention....
I would do a search on that extention (.xxx .yyy .zzz) you get the point... right
Usually you will find a website that will have a program to uncompress it (usually for free), download it, install it and extract using the program.. simple enough huh..
anywho,, hope this helps

very simple...
1- you should have -first- an uncompressing program
and the most recommended ones are:
win rar OR win zip
2- after setting the program up ..... you can extract files be clicking a right click on the compressed file and choose "extract here" , "extract all" , " extract at..." ..........etc

With XP that's extremely undemanding. you top click the compressed folder and use the extract way. OR.... you could purely open the compressed folder and reproduction and paste the information to a distinctive folder. E
