Projection TVs (including DLP) take more space, which is a disadvantage, but if you have the space and you like the quality of DLP picture (I personally prefer the seamlessness of DLP pictures to LCDs and Plasmas), I think DLP is a better value. Also, if you care about the cost, 720p is a better value than 1080p, since the difference is very slim.

You can also consider LCD rear projection sets and their variant, LCoS technology (that includes Sony's SXRDs). They also provide quite good value in comparison to flat panels which are much more expensive (I am assuming you're looking for a big TV. For smaller sizes, say less than 42, plasmas and LCDs are probably better priced).

One more point, you can get much cheaper prices if you buy things online, in particular on amazon.com (this is especially true since you'll get free shipping and won't have to pay sales tax), instead of local chain stores.

  • 720 lcd, they last for ever, they are much cheaper than 1080, and the human eye can only detect a slight difference in 720 and 1080.
