Craft ideas for seniors?

I volunteer to teach arts and crafts for senior citizens. We've made baskets of over two years. Tin Can Scare Crows, Sun Diffusers, and a few other odd projects.

They seem to be happy making baskets, but I'm growing tired and broke doing this. I really need some new ideas. They have other classes in sewing, languages, quilt making. I'm just looking for different crafts. Painting is out. Doing or making with a knife is out.

Please, if you have any suggestions, post them here!

The ladies at the rehab I used to work in made hats, they used plain straw hats and pasted on flowers, beads, ribbons and other things that were pretty, then had a fashion show. If you suggest this you might get an allowance to buy the material. Also take pictures of the ladies in their hats and give a small prize to the winner. Use the pictures for a photo album to place in the main lobby. It was great fun and they loved it! Good for you for volunteering, this is a great and kind thing for you to do for the seniors.

You might want to look on this page at my site for some ideas, and also links to other places that have ideas for seniors:

    http://glassattic.com/polymer/disabilities.htm

(... click especially on the subcategory called *Seniors and Assisted Living, etc.*...)

P.S. If they've liked making baskets, they might like to "weave" other things on small handmade "looms" as simple as cardboard squares... like ribbons, yarns, paper, or actually all kinds of things; should be a lot of lessons online for similar things, often for kids)

    Good luck!

Have you considered beadwork? There are many different varieties, from native american loomwork, to the simpler jewelry making you see nowadays. I'm assuming that since they have classes in sewing and quilting their manual dexterity is fairly good, and they do make large beads, if that's an issue.
