What makes you proud to be an American?

I know I'm free.

That is a personal question.

You people hold pride for different reasons.

Maybe start by researching you family tree. Maybe an ancestor was treated horriobly in their home country so they came here.

Right now I'm not proud.

Bill of Rights. Simple and direct. I'm aware that many other countries have their own versions of practically the same document but I'm personally proud to live in a country that has done a pretty incredible (compared to other countries) job at enforcing and protecting it.

The way our country came together after 9/11. Of course it's a shame it took an act of terrorism, but the show of patriotism after those events was astonishing to me. Every time I hear our National Anthem, it brings a tear to my eye and puts a lump in my throat.

We have one of the best quality of lifestyles in the world and it is affordable to the average American. There are some wealthy, industrialized countries whose average/regular citizens can't even afford to buy house or even find a house to rent e.g Germany--finding rental apts is difficult in major cities. Affording a home in New Zealand or Australia is beyond the reach of their average/regular income earning citizen.

land of opportunity, where you can invent pet rock and still makes lots of money.

immigrants can come and start all kinds of businesses.

you have the super rich and poor living on the same continent

easy to get credit card

education institution (mit, harvard, yale)

medical surgery skill

good highway system that you can drive accross the country

oil reserve

i'm proudt to be an american because, i know i have rights and freedom in this country and I feel safe. I know there are opportunites for me to grow and make my life better, and pursue happiness. It's a place where your hope and dreams has a chance to grow and come into reality.
