AccuCheck Aviva comes with multiclix finger pricker - is there an equivalent insulin injection device?

Nurses are recommending the AccuCheck Aviva for school-aged children, becuase the MultiClix finger pricker keeps used lancets in its drum - and there is no special sharps disposal box required for their school.

My question is - what is the point, if you still need a sharps disposal box for the insulin needles? Or is there an equivalent that saves you from needing a sharps box for those, too?

Thanks!

to the best of my knowledge there is not such a thing for the pen needles. It would be a good idea. I am a type 1 (adult) and work in a school and that would be great. I need 5 shots a day and 3 of them are during school hours, so I have a small cosmetic bag that has my insulin, meter and all the supplies I need in it. I also have an old plastic candy tube in it that I put my sharps into then at home that night when I restock my bag I dump the contents of the candy tube into my big sharps container (which is an old tide or bleach thing) The candy tube I'm talking about is the one the M&M minis come in the one that the reeces pisces comes in has a hingned lid and is orange thats what I have, I took the lable off and w/ a sharpie I wrote sharps on it.

A bd safe clip will clip off the needle and store it inside the clip - these are small and really simple things that make throwing away the needles easier as you don't need a sharps bin. Ask your nurse or you should be able to get one from your gp on prescription. Good luck xx
