what are retarded people called retarded, when it means to be tarded again? why not just call them tards?
i use the word all the time. i think euphamisms are hypocritical. besides, the most dangerous stupid people are the ones who don't know how stupid they are and get called things like special at times to reinforce the problem
sonomanon, i understand that u get a sense of superiority at "answering" my question and that by being derogatory to those smarter than u is the only way that you can advance your megalomaniacal supra-mediocre whimsical selfless martyr agenda, however, english is not my native language. sorry to burst your bubble. i am simply asking the question so that i can learn the answer as to why tards are tarded again in your language. as for you, i'm sorry that tard genes run in your family, had they been spayed or chemically neutered and not nurtured to spread this grotesque form of your dna, this plague on society could be cured, but i guess that would leave you out of a job. i am also sorry that all you could do with your life was to be a teacher of things that can not learn. you couldn’t even teach a real class. what a sad fate. and that’s all you ever were and that’s all you ever will be.
and catzmeow1, "special needs" places the gifted into the same category as the tarded.
10,000 times, huh? can this scale is called? and it is based on what standard deviation? did you use a control group? oh and teaching a parrot "Grammor"? CLASSIC. oh, and fyi i used to live next to tards and u know how people purchase parrots to hear them mimmic humans? well, they would mimmic my birds.
as for the hitler comparison, just because he did it doesn't make it wrong. in fact, that's inevitably where we are headed for the future through genetic engineering.

Since you claim in your profile to be a Mensa member and to be teaching your parrot sentence structure, I am surprised that you don't have a better understanding of language and of grammar. I hope you are doing better in instructing your parrot than you are in writing your question.
A dictionary is really a useful thing, Mensa Boy. Aside from learning how to correctly spell "euphemism," you could have learned that the word retarded simply means to make slower or later. An example would be that physical growth may be retarded, or slowed, by malnutrition. "Mentally retarded" was intended to indicate slower mental development, and it is not an innately negative term. But cruel and ignorant people like you use it in a way intended to be hurtful and derogatory, so other terms which people find less offensive are currently in general usage.
Another thing that you could learn from the dictionary is that there are many words in which "re-" is not a prefix meaning to repeat or do again. For example, to repeat is not to peat again, to resume is not to sume again, to report is not to port again, and to resort is not to sort again. There are numerous other examples.
I do agree with your statement that "the most dangerous stupid people are the ones who don't know how stupid they are." I think that describes you quite nicely.
Additional comment: Goodness, Jason X, not only are you a Mensa member, you are also psychic! You know all I ever have been and all I ever will be! How amazing you are!
(And isn't it interesting that you can use words like "megalomaniacal" while still pleading ignorance about simple words because you are not a native speaker of English?)

I agree with those 2 extra knowledge filled answers thanks guys. Frankly guys like you really get under my skin to say the least. You have no Idea what it is to live with a developmental disability! To have such derogatory terms flung at you by stupid arrogant people who would not make it one day in our world.
Oh & fYI people who have mental retardation & other cognitive disablities are not unable to learn, they just need differnt structure & instruction, patiants and love. I happen to be good friends with a young woman who has Autism, by all technical defintions yes she is retarded meaning her I Q is under 70 however she writes Haikus, she goes to School at our comunity collage and she studies great litterature in her spare time. Frankly she's 10,000 times smartwer than you'll ever be!
Don't look down your nose at special Ed teachers either it is a very worthy proffesion, a lot more worthwhile than teaching a parrot Grammor.
Oh and as for neuturing people to keep defects from speadiung good idea. Frankly If I could I go over there & nueter you myself with a dull carving knife you worthless F--k!!!

A lot of people have taken offense at your question, but I think you were just asking why "re" is put in front of "tarded". If that is true, and you just stated that English is not your first language, you may not have meant to be hurtful. As for your question, I don't believe "tarded" is a word in the English language, so putting "re" in front of it is not redundant because in this case "re" does not infer "again" If, on the other hand, you did mean it to be hurtful or even just to draw attention to your question, I just pity you for being so small minded. In reading your responce to those other other people, it occured to me that Hitler was also brilliant and his thinking was right in line with yours. Given that, I believe I would rather be around a million "tards" than one of YOU.

Wow, Jason X, looks like you can dish it out but you can't take it! If you re-read the answer that Sonomanon wrote, he or she DID answer your foolish question. Looks like getting called on it really got under your skin.
What in the world happened to you to make you such a hateful individual?
Remember that what goes around comes around. You could someday, through accident or illness, find yourself brain-injured and functioning at the level of a "mentally retarded" person. And anyone, no matter how superior they seem to think they are, can have, or father, a child with special needs; it could happen to you. But I hope that you never plan to have children, mostly because your hatefulness would spread to another generation.

"Retarded" simply means someone's cognitive development has been slow--and stops short of the average persons. And the term "retarded " is no longer used any way because it has become pejoritive.
And using "cutsy" distortions is not acceptalble. It's no different than usin the"n" word referring to African'Amiricans, or any other dergatory term. And people who do have intellectual disabilities are not dangerous. People who stereotype the disabled that way still think it's okay to make fun of this group--and do so because they know they can't get away with expressing their bigotry towards other groups. But they figure the disabled are still a safe target.
Your abusive "question" has been reported.

When a term such as "retarded" is used...it is a label...There are those that use it in a clinical diagnosis.."retarded" in growth or cognitive levels, and there are those that use it to belittle someone. Now that angers me, how dare anyone "label" someone when they don't know what it is like to be them. Both my little sister and my youngest son are disabled...And the BEST people anyone could ever know..I am truly blessed....so, when thinking of using that word .....DON'T...unless you are a health care profressional looking to help, or a family member looking to understand!

'MR' is a school age special education eligibility in Oregon (mentally retarded). It is hurtful to use the word 'retard' or 'retarded' to people and families who have MR. It means that someone has an IQ below 70. Please don't use words that hurt families and other people. Call it dumb or something else, but not retarded. What if you had a sibling that was MR...would you want your freinds throwing the word retarded around? It's just not kind.

That is no longer an appropriate word to use in society. The word you are looking for is "Special Needs".
- TweetyBirdLv 71 decade ago
The word "retard" means to slow up or to hinder. It does not mean "to be tarded again". Educated people no longer use this term.
