For most roasts, I boil them first in a pot of water on the stove (with a little salt and pepper)..and then when just about done, I put them in a pan and continue with baking in the oven, uncovered (after sprinkling with salt and pepper or whatever) as this seals in the juices and makes the outside a little crispy...always perfect!

If you cook it on the stove its basically like boiling the meat. Versus roasting in the oven which cooks from the outside in.

Stove top is better for stews and meats that are tough and not flavorful. The oven method is better for better cuts of roast...like prime rib or butt roasts. So that you can have them medium rare with a nice browned and crust like texture on the outside.

Pot roasts can be cooked either way. but the oven will give it a better "look" than the stove top.

You can do roasts in the microwave or crock pot, I know I've done them often enough! You can do scrambled eggs in the microwave. The ground beef and diced chicken can be thrown into the crock pot with some seasoning and vegetables and will come out as a casserole. Anything done in the crock pot will take a minimum of four hours to cook, so make sure you get it on EARLY! I can't think of anything you can do with the steaks, they really need a fry pan or grill. I'm not sure what you mean by 'chicken strips' so I will leave them alone! For all I know they could be what my local take away sells as 'chicken chippies'!

I use a crock-pot too! I put the roast in, pour in water too within an inch of covering the meat. Sprinkle a package of Lipton Onion soup powder (blue package) on top of the meat. Cover and let the pot do it's thing.

Our baby boy called it Church Meat. Cause we would put it on before going to church, and when we got home food was ready. They didn't like it with the veggies, so the soup mix stuck.

When the kids come to visit, we still have church meat!

You can brown the sides on a stove top, and then put it in oven...or crock pot...or whatever. The stove top won't cook the insides. It's not my fault...blame canada.

I always use a crock pot - I've found no better way to make a fool-proof roast.
