How do I find out what zone I'm in for growing plants?

I live in Alaska.

Since you live in Alaska, the USDA hardiness maps won't work since they only cover the mainland. You best bet is to use the Canadian zoning developed by Agriculture Canada (Government agency). I have included a link to such a map in the source section. The Northern Canadian territories have about the same climate as Alaska (depending on where in Alaska off course).

Here is a GREAT USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map that covers not only the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii, but also northern Mexico to include the Yucatan. From this map you can zoom in to your specific region. Click the link below and be on your way!

Get on the mailing lists of two or three seed or tree company's.

About this time of year, they'll be sending out a bunch of catalogs, and they all have neat little charts of growing zones in them.

Normally on the back of seed packages they have a map of the united stated and regions are sorted by color which would mean climate. Try checking the back of seed packages for the answer.
