Why as adults do we feel the need to put children's cartoon characters into categories?
Why is it there are adults who want to put different cartoon characters into categories such as homosexual or get a reassurance that the character/s are just best friends.
I remember a few years people wanting to classify Sponge Bob and Patrick as homosexual, saying that they aren't good roll models for children - yet when a child watches that show do you think they have a grasp of the notion of homosexuality or that they just see them 2 characters as best friends?
Same as characters such as Bert & Ernie, or Big Ears from Noddy - I remember as a child there was uproar when Big Ears would use the word 'gay' to describe how he was feeling.
Why do we do this as adults put these fictional characters into these categories and cause issues where there is no need to create the issues in the 1st place. Why can't we just let children be children and enjoy watching these shows while they still have an innocence about them that lets them enjoy the world without stereotypes & categories?
I don't put these characters into categories and find it annoying and sad that some adults feel the need to.
As a child when I was watching the shows I watched them for what they were and didn't look for a greater social meaning like adults seem to

I know... maybe if we let kids watch this stuff without making a big deal of what we see as being maybe a little off, it won't be a big deal to them - they will just accept and not judge people they see as different.. did that make sense? It did ot me lol.

Some people are driven to make the world an orderly place. They must categorize everything for their own peace of mind. And caring parents look at the cartoons their children watch and try to protect the children from bad influences (bad as defined by the parent) All TV has a bias and a theme. If the parents don't like the bias or the theme in a cartoon, it is their right and responsibility to keep their child from watching it. Some parents achieve that by limiting the TV their children watch -- others protest and try to remove "bad" programming from TV so their kids can watch anything.

I think some loud mouth trying to spoil it for children, taking away Innocent characters. Or their minds are twisted.
Yes children should just be children
Bert and Ernie are just like little boys sharing a room they sleep in different beds. As a young girl I enjoyed them and saw them as friends and today they are just good friends too.
Same with all the other you mentions.

the little ones continuously decide on to be remote from reality. Cartoons supply them chance to grow to be someone contained in the land of their very personal and giggle on the flaws shown to them.The adults have learnt to envision reality and performance a opinion of their very personal and many a time do not understand a thanks to laught at issues. So cartoons do not a lot entice adults.

That's because these people (usually the Religious Right) have WAY too much time on their hands.
I remeber when they tried to ban the Smurfs because they said that Papa Smurf working in his lab, lighting candles, drawing a pendagram in chalk on the floor and reading books of magic was teaching kids witchcraft or satanism, or something like that.
Yeah, they're (the Religious Right) a bunch of whackos.

Some parents are so scared and uptight they feel they have to protect their kids from everything they (meaning the parents) are afraid of. Kids are smarter that you think and can made their own judgements. Now partents are passing their fears to their kids and they will end up just like their parents.
