The Bears added the initials GSH to the left sleeve of their jerseys in 1984 in honor of the late founder/owner/player/head coach 'Papa Bear' George S. Halas who died on October 31, 1983.

GSH stands for George Stanley Halas. He was first a player than a coach than an owner of the Chicago Bears. His daughter is now the owner of the Bears and her name is Virginia Halas McCaskey. Also, the NFC Championship trophy bears his name. Here is a website if you want to learn more about George Halas.
