Help with new memory foam mattress?
Please help. We bought a new memory foam mattress at the weekend, one which is 100% memory foam and no springs. My problem is that I have hardly slept at all since we have had it. I expected it to mould to me but actually find it quite hard. Has anyone else had this problem and will it get better? I thought that it would "give" a bit but seeing as the selling point of memory foam is that it retains it's shape etc. am now a bit doubtful. Please help, it has cost us a fortune and we really can't/don't want to go back and buy another type.

I recently changed to a new memory foam mattress. For the first couple of weeks I found it quite hard to adjust as my body was used to an appalling mattress that offered me no support at all and it took a while to adjust. After a couple of weeks though I started to sleep better than I have done in years and wake up in the morning ache and pain free. In fact I struggle to get out of it now as I find it so comfortable!
I guess these mattresses are not for everyone, but my personal advice would be to give it a couple of weeks and see how you feel.

Hopefully you bought a Tempurpedic....The rest are inferior....
They are sensitive to heat and weight. The warmer the softer, colder is firmer. It memorizes its original flat shape, resulting in no body impressions. They do take time to adjust to; if you are not adjusted after a few weeks the place you bought it should a have a garuantee that allows you to switch to another mattress for some small restock fee 10% or maybe even 20%, to get a new mattress. Also the whole mattress is not memory foam, most likely half. Memory foam has no support and their must be another foam underneath in the mattress(you should feel the difference on the side)for support. The more memory foam the softer it will feel, better pressure relief, and more $$$$. Tempurpedic has 2 new models with a softer, better memory foam on the top.

The idea of the memory foam is that it retains it's mattress shape and doesn't suffer from the sinking that normal mattresses do where you lay all the time. You do sink in to them a little, but they are quite firm, as the foam compresses when you lay on it. I don't find them comfortable - You would have been better with a normal mattress that you turn every couple of weeks.

I've got one of the ones that just has memory foam on top of springs, and it's the most comfortable mattress I've ever had! I find it nice and soft and it changes shape pretty quickly.
For your predicament, I would call the shop as soon as possible. Even if they will not give you a refund, you should be able to exchange it for something different.
If they refuse, contact your local trading standards department.
I think it's better to act now than to risk the hardness being a constant, not temporary, problem.
Good luck!

i have a memory foam mattress topper which cost £100 and worth every penny i payed for it. It simply goes over the top of your exsisting mattress and its the most comfortable thing ive ever slept on and always have a really good nights sleep

We bought ours nearly 3 years ago and at first i had the same problem as you but gradually it got better it just takes the body time to adjust to the new mattress as it's firmer than most ,I'd stick with it for a while longer i wouldn't go back to the one we had before, have you tried putting a mattress topper on it for a while.

They do take a couple of weeks to get used to because they feel so different but after that we found ours much better than a sprung mattress and I don't walk like a duck in the mornings anymore!

I've heard really bad things about these matresses. Go back to the shop and speak to them. They want happy customers and may well offer you an alternative.
