Annoying things customers do in drive-thru?

What are the most annoying things customers do? How can customers make the trip a little faster?

Update:

I watched several movies on guest service to be trained on drive-thru. Then I had to spend a couple of weeks taking orders for the dining room before I was moved to the drive-thru. Now it's my favorite position, and I feel I was trained very well. I am too young to remember a time before speaker boxes. The old boxes are annoying, but the new ones can be just as bad, becuse if you punch a wrong button, the person in the car knows right away.

Update 2:

Hey, I've been a customer. I LOVE working drive-thru. There are some annoying customers, yes, and I know most are really great. JIB is the only job I want right now, I have no other option to get through college. Obviously you've never worked fast food, so you can't understand the frustration upon hearing "I don't know what I want yet" for the hundredth time that day.

Update 3:

One more thing: I do have a question about workers, I'm not trying to be rude, I just want to know what people on both sides think.

    1. Treat you as if you're scum. I only treat people badly if they've done the same to me first.

    2. Complain about wait time when your line is FULL of people during rush time.

    3. Order something, say you're correct when you read it back to them, but then decide that YOU'RE wrong when you give them what they've asked for. ESPECIALLY if they have a little screen in front of them.

    1. Have your money/payment ready at the window. Nothing more annoying than a line full of cars and you're still searching your car for the last penny.

    2. Pull up away from the window and double-check your order. Even window-people can make mistakes from time to time. Don't wait until you get home to find out.

    3. BE NICE..though this goes for the workers also, this is a BIG one. You're sitting there all nice and cozy in your car, whereas we've probably been standing at this window for the past 3 hours. Most people don't do that at their office, and niceness and understanding is appreciated.

    4. Realize that the window-people do NOT make the food. Yes, it is their job to double check it, but it is NOT their fault if the food is made incorrectly. They don't open the sandwich package to double check, they just check the package for the sandwich. If you're going to come in and complain, please be respectful and DON'T curse.

I think the most annoying thing customers do in a drive thru is spend forever trying to figure out what they want. I just want to scream at them, "It's McDonald's!! They have the exact same thing they had yesterday when you came!!" The only thing worse is when they bring the whole family and wait until they pull up to ask what everyone wants.

I think the workers in drive-thru are mostly pretty great. The best customer service you can give me is if you give me the right food that I asked for. On occasion they'll forget to put an item in.

I'm sure there are things customers can do to make it faster, and I'm sure there are things we do that annoy, but drive-thru employees really need to be trained better.

Things seemed to go better twenty years ago when you ordered at an actual window with a person in it and then drove up to a second window for your order. The speakers are either hard to hear or broken, they scream at you and then can't understand you when you order, or you are both trying to talk at once. It is so frustrating!

I am probably one of the people who annoy everyone, but I always have to check my change and my order because they have screwed it all up so much in the past.

Source(s): I'm adding to this because I've been thinking that if all drive-thru employees cared enough to try and better themselves like this, maybe we wouldn't have a problem. Oh, and I also worked fast food (including drive-thru) all my way through college. It can be very aggravating, but is also one of the few jobs with the kind of flexibility students require.

I totally agree. I'm sure customers annoy the hell out of workers in drive thru but as a customer I've had bad experiences in drive thru due to people on the other side who dont understand english. I'm sorry...i'm not trying to be racist but dont you think that the people they put in drive thru should atleast understand and be able to speak english. It boils my blood.

    1. People have multiple orders in one trip, and they pay seperately for all.

    2. People open their bag after they get their food and hand it out to people in the car before they pull away.

    3. People add to their order at the pay window

    4. People pull out of line and I get handed someone else's order

    5. People won't pull up... they sit 4 ft from the person in front of them.

They are the CUSTOMERS. It does NOT matter how annoying they are to you. They pay your salary and if you are not nice to them, then they will go down the street to annoy other businesses and they take their money with them!

If you are so annoyed as to be talking about it here on Answers, then no doubt your annoyance is transparent. Find a different job. You should not be working with the public.

It is a fact that many types of personalities are indecisive or unorganized. There is a fixed percentage of the population that are this way. Of course, they should know what they want and they probably did when they got in line, but the restaurant has all these colorful advertisements that confused them and made them question their decision. If you can't find a better job than McDonald's, then I suggest that you concentrate on being the best and friendliest McDonald's employee that you can be.

Success is NOT being the best, it is doing YOUR best.

Why are people asked to pull up to wait for their order after they have been in line waiting for everyone else's order? After I found out that most people DONT pull up, I stopped doing the same. I figured that if I have waited in your slow line for 10 minutes that I should not be asked to pull up so fries can cook for 2 minutes.
