Has anyone ever heard the legend of meeting yourself?
Very rarely, I'll hear references to a legend or myth from some culture about the idea that if you walk far enough, you'll eventually meet yourself, and then something spiritually significant happens. I haven't been able to find any information about this, so I was wondering if anyone knows more about this, like what culture(s) it's from, the exact nature of the myth, etc.
To clarify, I mean that you go on a physical journey, and you 'physically' encounter (either only in your mind or an actual physical entity) and you have some kind of confrontation, possibly physical in nature. I've heard variants where the alternate you represents your negative impulses or id, and others where it represented something like your superego or even a deity.

It started as an Aboriginal Australian tale, from the time of the Dream Time, where you would embark on a spiritual journey away the company of everyone you knew to reflect on your life and find the meaning of your existence, to a certain point. Over time, it has grown to include journeys of the mind into problems you are facing in life, and it is much like a native Indian ritual, with vision quests, only that instead of meeting your spirit guide, at your time of need while on your journey, you see and converse with yourself in your mind and realise all of the things that you hate about yourself, in full detail, and what you can do to make your life better for the future.

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to, but Buddhist believe in meditation, and walking can be a form of meditation (some people walk mazes for this purpose). And meditation helps you to get in touch with yourself.... so I'm thinking this is a Buddhist belief.

I think what you are referring to is doppleganger, or bilocation. The old tale is that if you see your doppleganger (double) it is an omen of death.
