If i work out mid-morning, what kind of breakfast is the best for fat burning and wieghtloss?

I understand that if you work out soon after eating and have too many carbs you won't burn fat...just sugar. Is this true? I'm a little confused about how this works and what is the best time to eat in relation to exercise.

Just to clarify, grapefruit is not a negative calorie food, it's low in calories but not negative. There's roughly 70-90 calories in one and the body does not spend that much digesting one. That's actually a misconception, but it is an extremely beneficial food.

Protein is the best thing you can eat, with a small amount of slow burning carbs. Protein shakes are low in calories and contain quality protein. A banana/apple or some oatmeal with it would be great. And lots of water.

The reason you want to eat just a little something (with protein) before working out to lose fat is because you are catabolic from the night before (meaning you are already burning muscle from a lack of protein ingestion, plus your metabolism is slowing down) and although your glycogen levels (carbs stored in your muscles) are low, you will perform better/go harder and save muscle if you eat a little right before the workout, and just eat a little less later in the day. That way you just ate the same # of calories that day, but allocated them to where they will do the most good. Best of luck.

the best time to eat is actually right after you work out not before. because your body is still in calorie burning mode after the workout is over. this of course is assuming you got some good carbs in your body hours before you started working out--like the night before at dinner

but grapefruit is great because it has no calories (actually it has a negative amount of calories) the actual fruit, not the juice drinks

granola (with not a lot of sugar added) is great. whole grain cereals and ceral bars (Kashi ceral and bars are amazing and they taste great)

green tea is great for energy and stamina. stay away from cereals with sugar and chocolatey goodness packed into them.

watch the simple carbs. and the white flours

drink lots of water, some toast with peanut butter, and egg, and anything else light that's not full of fat and partially hydrogenated grossness

Have a protein shake for breakfast, but leave out any fruit that can sour in your stomach. It will make you feel too full. Either just the shake or add 1/2 banana. And after exercise have something with protein again, your muscles need it.
