My son's cough won't go away. What can I do to help him?
My 4 year old son has a cough that started this morning and has not stopped. I gave him cough medicine but it only releaves the cough for a few minutes and then it comes back again. The poor little guy is exhausted and he is breathing as if he has ran a marathon. He is also starting to get abdominal pain as he has not stopped coughing. Any one know of good home remedies that can help him?

Tea with honey. Plenty of Vicks Vapor Rub. Don't give him any milk products. Lots of mommy love.
Take him to the doctor and get him checked for asthma just to be safe.
My son has bronchitis enduced asthma...meaning he can't stop coughing when he's sick. He's on a treatment plan that contain a puffer with steroids to strenthen his lungs and it's working.

My daughter(8 years old) had the same problem.Cough medicine was not the answer.Albuterol was the remedy because after seeing an allergist and a physician she was found
to have childhood asthma. It shows up as a cough in some children.Good luck.

Time to go to the doctor. If he is breathing that fast, he is getting poor air exchange. Meaning, his lungs are not getting enough oxygen out of the air he is breathing. He will probably throw up soon due to the fact he is working so hard to breathe. Sounds to me like he is having an asthma attack. Not all asthma is wheezing, a great deal of it is coughing. I understand not wanting to medicate your kids if you don't have to, but, I really do think it's time to be sure he's getting enough air.

Take him to the doctor. He may have bronchitis, pneumonia or be having an asthma attack. If he doesn't have any of these the doctor could prescribe a cough suppressant with codeine. It helped my little guys cough. Good luck
