What does this mean (In hip-hop rap songs)?

In hip hop, shortie isn't a girlfriend realy. It's an inbetween stage where the guy and the shortie are a couple, but the relationship is on the way to becoming serious. It's a term of affection that is thrown around often without much menaing to it anyways.

First song that came to mind when reading your question was "'Love the way you lie" by Eminem and Rihanna. With the music video to that song and all, I'm not sure how much more meaning you can get. Not sure if you're looking into R&B also, but if so, I was looking through some of the music on my laptop and saw "Impossible" by Shontelle and "Not Anymore" by Letoya. Hayley Williams - Forever by Drake - Love Me or Hate Me by Lady Sovereign If you know where to look and have good taste in music, there are really loads of rap/hip hop songs with some sort of true meaning behind them. It looks like you're already familiar with Eminem but for the hip/hop side of the question, definitely look into most of Jo Jo's singles.
