with kanji - is it all outlines or shading/outline?
curious....when you get kanji tattooed on you, are the characters solely done using the outline needle setup or do they use the shading needle setup with filling in the inside of the characters?
I figured that most of it was outline needles but was just curious. I'm asking him to make the characters as small as possible (so that they won't distort or anything in the future) because I want it to sit next to my existing portrait tattoo which is only about 3.5-4 inches. The characters have to be at least like an inch though and there's going to be 3 characters.

I have a strange feeling that Mr. Zhang has a pretty good method for doing this sort of stuff. He will probably outline with a body pen, and go from there. "He ain't no rookie" Are you going in for your first tat (part 2) soon?

I suppose it depends on the artist doing it and how thick the character strokes have to be. I image one would use outline and shading needles, but I'm not a tattoo artist. Call the one doing the work and ask him/her.

I have a kanji tattoo and there is no shading. Its just an outline filled with black. It all depends on what you want and what you tell the tattoo artist to do. If you want shading then tell them so.
