  • What would be a cute thing to do for boyfriend and daughter?

Ok very cute - bf helped daughter buy some little accessories for me for my new phone and have been doing little things for me. My daughter has been giving me little presents and he watched her so that I could take a nap the other day. They have both been doing a bunch of stuff like that. What is something sweet that I could do for both of them? Any ideas?

  • Motivation in getting an Asian character tattoo?

Just wondering this....why do so many people like to get Asian characters on themselves - esp if they are not Asian? It seems that most of the people that get these characters don't know anything about the culture or the language...so what's your motivation in doing so? I just find it really odd and kind of funny when I see it.

Also - just for your information if you are wondering because these facts don't seem to be known:

    1. In order to be correct, the character needs to be EXACT - no altering of the character at all

    2. The true way to write Chinese actually run vertically and right to left...you can write it in an English language formation but it isn't gramatically correct.

    3. There are different characters for different types of the same word. (ie. The character for Change: you can change clothes, change your point of view...the character for "change" will be different characters) - make sure you get this right if you are going to tattoo something on yourself.

  • Tattoo question community service...(answers to common ques in here)?

Hi all - I did this one time before and thought I would do it again. Here are some answers to questions that are commonly posted in YA in the tattoo section...

    1. 18 - you have to be 18 - there are some places that will do it at 16 if your parent is with you

    2. We don't know what you should get, this is something that you really need to figure out on your own - remember, you want a design that will still be "cool" to you in the future too.

    3. Yes it hurts

    4. No we don't know how much it will cost you, you need to go to a tattoo studio and ask them because each artist is different. Depends on who your artist is, the detail you have in your tattoo, etc.

  • The answers to some of the common tattoo questions seen in this area?

    1. hurt? - yes, it hurts....needles entering your body at 1/16th of an inch 250x per second....pain varies from person to person and place to place - to me it felt like MANY bee stings to others it may feel differently - endorphins kick in after about 5 min. Never goes completely numb but it's bearable. Your body does adjust to the feeling.

    2. safe to get an epidural - yes - cousin is an anesthisiologist..main concern is liability in messing up the tattoo NOT body damage

    3. HIV cases - only 2 on record - both done in jail - NONE recorded

    4. what should i get - this is something that you as an individual needs to figure out - it's something permanent...so you should put thought into it.

    5. How to pick an artist - pls do your hmwk on your artists to help you determine who you go to. Different artists specialize in different sorts of tattoos

Hope this helps some of you out!

  • Will this plan work?

Ok...my tattoo is in OMG - 9 hours....and I want to know if this plan sounds like a good one...

When I'm in pain or not ready for him to start tattooing...I plan to hit my tattoo artist's hand and then roll off the table.

Do you think this plan will work???? I'm REALLY SCARED and I'm not sure why I'm getting the tattoo in the first place.

    Thanks for all your help!

  • how seriously are you taking these answers?

Ok just out of curiousity....for those that are asking these sorts of questions....

    1. What should I get

    2. I want a meaningful tattoo but don't know what to get

    3. Can someone draw me a tattoo?

    4. I just got a tattoo - how do I take care of it

How seriously do you take the answers that you get? A tattoo is something very personal and I would think that the decision shouldn't be made by random strangers since the ink is going to be on you...also, with re: to aftercare questions, your artist should be giving you instructions....why are there so many questions about that??

  • people for/against tattoos...survey?

I'm on this board quite often and i'm just curious....

1)If you don't like tattoos, good for you, but why the need to insult others that do have tattoos - not appreciating those that are different from yourself?

2)Statements that tattoos are "low class" - do you feel that it's classy to make some of the comments that you've made to people with tattoos?

3)What about tattoos are "trashy" and where did you develop this definition?

4)Last random question: for those that are tattooed....did you get your tattoo just "to get a tattoo" or does your tattoo have significant meaning to you? If you got it simply because "you wanted a tattoo"...what made you want the tattoo? Tattooing seen as art, paying tribute to something, a rebellious moment, just because??

The nerd in me is just curious about all of these factors...

    thanks!

  • Question for the people that talk about how one should not get tattoos?

Just out of curiousity....when answering questions with a "don't get a tattoo because they're yucky/gross/low class, etc....are you actually hanging out in the tattoo area of YA or are you just finding the questions randomnly from the home page of YA? I'm just really curious.

If you are a person that goes into the tattoo area of YA but solely for the reason of telling people the "evilness" of tattoos....why do you choose to do so?

    Just curious...

  • How do tattoo artists come up with a Chinese name?

I've always been curious about this. I'm Chinese and my Chinese name was given to me by my parents and grandparents at birth. Chinese names are only 2-3 characters max (character for your surname + a name) . When people go in to get their "Chinese name" tattooed on them...is it the tattoo artist that's making up the name or how is this done? Chinese don't have an alphabet - so how are artists creating these names? Are they taking desired characteristics of a person and creating a name?

I've always been kind of curious about this.

  • Have any of you tried Dermablend?

Hi all...hope that you had a great weekend...wondering if any of you have ever tried Dermablend to cover your tattoo? If yes, does it work well? Planning to audition for a play sometime and I just want to know about the product moreso in case I need to cover my tattoo up because the "character" does not have a tattoo.

    Thank you much!

  • with kanji - is it all outlines or shading/outline?

curious....when you get kanji tattooed on you, are the characters solely done using the outline needle setup or do they use the shading needle setup with filling in the inside of the characters?

  • I find it amusing....?

I find it kind of amusing when you always see questions asking what an individual should get tattooed on them....because they they really want a tattoo, they have no clue what to get tattooed on them...but they want the tattoo to be "deep and meaningful" ...random thought...

  • Questions re: tattoo #2?

Ok - to make this easier...I'll just # the questions? Thanks so much....

    1. My tattoo is being done for free by the artist that did my first one. I found out that he normally charges approx 200 for the tattoo that I'm getting as an addition...is $100 tip good? He's also going to do any necessary touch up work on my existing tattoo that he's adding to.

    2. The orig tattoo is on my lower back on the left side. The addition is going to be my daughter's Chinese name (her real one)...it's going to be put on closer to my spine. If the tattoo isn't directly on the spine, does it hurt as badly or is it just super painful on the actual spine?

    3. For those mommies that had babies. I have one daughter already but not sure down the line if my hubby and I will have another, did any of your lower back tattoos distort alot or anything?

*ugh...the stress of getting the tattoo is making me have second thoughts again. :S

  • solid lines vs shading?

hi all - wondering....I can't believe I did this but i just booked my addition to my tattoo or a 2nd tattoo...going to be my daughter's Chinese name next to her portrait (3 characters....name is her actual Chinese name, not one created by the artist) The tattoo is 3 characters but since it is completely filled in basically, is this going to cause that much more pain than the initial tattoo with shading AND solid lines? I remember that the solid lines bothered me less than the shading but just wanted to get viewpoints from other individuals with both shading and solid line experience. Any thoughts?

  • tattoo AND redness afterwards - Normal???

hi all...me again, bugging with another question....when you get a tattoo (got one last night), does your surrounding skin normally get red looking? It's not swollen but just red...more red than last night after I got the tattoo. It's not streaking, I think that's what's supposed to happen if it's getting infected right? But just want to know if this is normal or if i should be concerned...

  • Tattoo and Tip?

Hi all...ok - tattoo cost is 700...was orig going to tip 88 (8 is a good luck # in chinese and artist is chinese so he'll know what that means) BUT here's the thing. I'm thinking of upping the tip amount...100 to the artist and 50 to the person that's been helping me appt wise, design wise and she's just really been avail if I've had any questions...ranging from scheduling of the tattoo to the fact that I'm still nursing and getting a tattoo. (which i dbl checked with my daughter's pedi, my doctor, the lactation center and the tattoo studio and it's ok to do)

Was going to give it in a Chinese Red Envelope (I'm married - so me giving red envelopes is ok)

I am not sure if the studio shares tips as a whole or if you take what you get from the customers....but 150 is 21.4% tip

    Sound like a good plan?

I really like this tattoo studio....they've been VERY helpful and I'm so glad I went to them.
