I have a 1994 Hyundai Excel and sometimes it will not start for no obvious reasons.?

It sounds like a starter problem. Try this, when it doesn’t start check to see if all the electronics are working. This means try the headlights, radio, lights on the dash. If all of that work then it’s probably the starter. Also when you turn the key and all you hear is a click sound then it’s definitely the starter.

I have a 1995 Hyundai accent, I've had the same problems and they've come and gone. Here's what I found and now it's finally fine! It may be the computer temperture gauge registering that the car is already "running" the best I can describe it is the car thinks it's already on when you try to start it! Very annoying. That was about $300 to fix. And I did get a new starter and it needed a full tune up, new wires, new plugs, new filters. I have to say these cars are inexpensive but repairs seem a bit much sometimes. All I can suggest is regular maintence to catch these things before it creates other problems and you're stuck with a huge bill! Hope that helps, good luck!

sounds like you have a starter problem. within the starter is a spinning armature (fat rod with metal all over it). if you can imagine a soda can turning around inside the starter, thats about the closest shape reference i can give. well, this part can get a dead spot, a spot that doesnt make contact to the electrics inside. if this part stops spinning and lands where the dead spot is under the contact point, when you turn the key, it doesnt make contact, and you get no response from the starter. but the fork (thing that pushs the starter's gear into the motor to start up), still hits the gear, and this kinda turns the armature ever so slightly, untill it hits where it makes contact, and the car starts. i would suggest replacing the starter. hope this wasnt a smartass answer. haha. good luck

Wiring could be an issue. Also check the sensors as well.

Does this occur when the enginecold or hot?

What happen is when you installed a new battery into a 13 yrs old car, those wiring and sensors might not able to handle the new battery.

Take it to a shop that you know and have them check it out for you. However, make sure you tell them exactly what happen and in what condition that it happen. This will help them to narrow down the problem.

Have an auto electrician run a check on the electric system it is possible that its a loose connection or if you have an immobilisor fitted it could be that the battery is flat in the hand piece or its faulty.
