How to get to Tonga from Melbourne?
My son has been invuted to go with a family to lovely Tonga next school hollidays. I was wondering if anyone knows how you get there from Melbourne. My perception is that the Islands do not take large aircraft, so, a traveller would have to take a ferry from somwwhere after having flown from mainland?? Thanks.

Virgin Blue fly to the capital of Tonga twice a week where u can catch a connecting flight to several of the outer islands via Tonga Airlines.
I'm pretty sure that Tonga Airlines operate a direct service from Australia as well,probably from Sydney
