There is some good advice here. May I suggest you pick up a copy of "What Every Woman Should Know" from your local SocSec office - or order it by phone. It is a very nice pamphlet that will answer many of your questions.

I was married for 22 years, than my spouse passed away. I am 59 and wondering how I would go abou getting benefits. I remarried for a very short time, than had it annulled. Does that matter in whether I get my deceased husband benefits?

I was able to pull from my ex-husband's account because we had been married longer than ten years and because he passed six years ago.
The best thing to do is go to the SS office and talk to one of their people. Each one of us is different in our SS applications and needs. The web site and AARP provide generic information so that you have a general idea of what paperwork you need to provide and what they can do for you. For specifics it is always best to go to those who know.

Have you tried this page? I think that the years married only applies if you were divorced prior to the spouses death or remarried prior to age 60.
