    +7x +7x

    12x = 12

    1. First, you need to get the variables on one side, so you add 7x to both sides (to keep the equation true).

    2. Now you have 12x=12. So, to find what x is, simply divide both sides by 12 (since x is multiplied by 12). The answer is x=1.

    These type of problems might look difficult but they are really very simple if you just think about it.

    Here:

    Problem --> 5x = -7x + 12

    Add 7x to both sides:

    5x = -7x + 12

    + 7x = + 7x <-- APOE (Addition Property of Equality)

    ----------------------

    12x = 0 + 12 <-- APOO/AIP (Additive Property of Opposites/Additive Inverse Property)

    12x = 12 <-- AIPOZ (Addition Identity Property of Zero)

    1/12 (12x = 12) 1/12 <-- MPOE (Multiplication Property of Equality)

    x = 1

    Check:

    5x = -7x + 12

    Plug-in:

    5(1) = -7(1) + 12

    5 = -7 + 12

    5 = 5

    Hope I helped.

    5x=-7x+12

    you would add 7x to both sides to get rid of the -7x. You would get 12x=12. then you would divide by 12 on both sides to isolate the x. your answer would be x=1.

    1st step: 5x+7x=12

    2nd step: 12x=12

    3th step: x=12/12

    4th step: x=1
