Did Mark Martin get ripped off?

I am a NASCAR fan and have been for 40+ years, but again they blew it. Consider this scenario; At the start of the race or after a restart, when the whole pack is bunched up. The leaders take the green and the whole pack has crossed the start-finish line. When they hit turn 1, the last 5 cars wreck. Since they are behind the leaders, would NASCAR let them keep racing? No. That very scenario is why they eliminated racing back to the caution. I agree with that, but apply it consistently. The yellow should have been throw immediately, the field frozen, and MM would have won. But let's take it one further. Don't throw the caution at all and let those cars who were far back from the wreck pass the wrecked cars and improve their finish. Then instead of drivers like Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer who were invovled in the wreck finishing in the top 15, they would be farther back. Face it, NASCAR, you blew it.

Sidebar: Way to go, Clint. Try that again. That would make a good ride at Disney World. Or even better, since his sponsor is Jack Daniel's, a good ad against drinking and driving.

YES!!! I don't think it was because Nascar didn't throw the caution flag though. Harvick was just a jerk - he has many many more years to race and Martin has one or two probably. And Martin ran good to be an old school racer! What a totally unclassy way for Harvick to act yesterday. And don't say that much $$$ would make him do anything to win, none of these Nascar guys are hurting for money. On the other hand though, Nascar should have dropped the caution flag at the first sign of a wreck - that is the RULES - of course if you make the rules I guess you can change them anytime it is convienent for you.

i have to say watching it i did feel as if he got ripped off. this morning saw some more replays, and maybe not. i think perhaps they didn't throw it to give him a chance. He was in the lead briefly as the wreck happen, but when they should have thrown the yellow, or at least when i think they should have, harvick had overtaken him. now i don't know where they consider a scoring loop is at in daytona. maybe whoever it is that makes that decision didn't throw it to give him a chance. plus you had made a good point on my question it would not really had mattered. in that kind of wreck you don't need a flag to take all the caution you can. it was from the top to bottom of the track.

he definitely got ripped off. if nascar would have thrown the flag when the wreck happened. as soon as it happened not after they crossed the start/finish line. then martin would have taken home the victory. but instead they waited until harvick had passed him and then they was like "oh, I guess we could throw the caution now." i LOVE nascar and would never stop watching it. but last night was a crock of sh**. martin won plain and simple, but to nascar he was a flippin .020 of a second slower.

next time nascar: throw the flag when the wreck happens, not when your "picked" driver gets ahead.

Even though Nascar officals dropped the flag to late, Harvick should have been enough of sport to let Martin win. I mean come on, Harvick is going to be around for a while. Martin,lets face it, he isn't getting any younger and it would have been the best way to end his final season. I think Harvick is just greedy and all he can think about is the money... But to be honest, i would probably do the same thing. It is a lot of money and might only be a once in a lifetime oppurtuinty.

I'm a kevin harvick fan but I do believe mark matin got shafted this time ... at some point last year a similar situation occurred when they went into "overtime" with jimmy johnson leadng and the caution came out on the final lap and they went back to the previous scoring loop and "detremined" that jimmy johnson was the winner . no hating on johnson but it seems like NASCAR might be playing with double standard

absolutely, I think the officials were too busy watching the crashes, they should have put the caution flag out sooner.

Who cares, what a great finish. He's not in my favorite top 43 anyway. Go Stewart
