New BMW key will do everything BUT start the car?
Car: 1999 BMW 528i Sport 180,100miles autonatic
I bought a new key from BMW dealership, and had it programed by them, they told me how if anyonewants to know. It will do everything but stat the car. lock, unlock, open trunk, and turn the ignition switch to start position, all dash lights come on like normal. Here is the kicker. If you start the car with the old valet key(without keyless entry) turn off the car and then use teh new key withing 5-8seconds it will work and the car will run and frive fine.
Question: Has anyone had seen or know anything about this problem besides give BMW 200 more dollars to start looking at it.
Notes:
Original key in owners manual uses battery, key they provided does not. The new one gets charged through ignition switch as in my uncles 2004 330i
Thanks everyone!

I'm assuming you've left the new key in the ignition long enough for the battery to charge inductively...
If that doesn't work, they provided you with the wrong key. Most newer BMW keys have a small chip in them which is read by the ignition switch. This is in addition to the cut key itself. This is supposed to prevent someone from making a copy and driving off with your car.
Go back to the dealer with your new key and ask them to give you one that works. You should have the car with you and the VIN number.

You indicated it won't start up- Does that recommend the engine starter isn't turning over the engine or the engine is popping over yet no longer commencing. is this an computerized, examine the place the stick is placed, must be in Park or impartial (swap must be defective). additionally must be started solenoid, a mechanic can examine that throughout the time of approximately 5 minutes so do no longer lead you down a protracted direction of pay for this pay for that, etc.

If that key doesnt work the dealership sould make you a new one for free. Feel free to complain and threaten to call BMW corporate if they keep trying to screw you. No dealership wants a call to their corporate office.
