  • What do you think of this George Washington quote?

It seems exactly like what is happening today. He saw the dangers of political parties in America. Almost his entire farewell address revolved around the evils of political parties. Please take the time to read the entire address.

    http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/washing.as...

"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty"

  • Independents, especially those in MA, what say you?

"If there's one thing that I regret this year is that we were so busy just getting stuff done and dealing with the immediate crises that were in front of us that I think we lost some of that sense of speaking directly to the American people," Obama told ABC News.

The president said that he had assumed that if he concentrated on making good policy decisions, voters would understand them, but instead they had become consumed by a "feeling of remoteness and detachment" from Washington.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100121/pl_afp/usvote...

Apparently Obama thinks that the voters in MA, and I guess the rest of the country, are too dumb to realize his policies are good. I guess he thinks that if he spent even more time on TV talking to us we would all understand. Personally, I think the voters do understand. I was under the impression that the voters of this country know what is going on and voted to stop it. So what do you think of this arrogant and patronizing statement by our President?

  • For those who think gun control laws equal lower homicide rates?

In 1998 very strict gun laws were passed in MA. Over the next decade lawfully licensed gun owners declined by 80%. In the four years prior to these laws there was a 57% decrease in firearm assaults and 50% decrease in firearm related homicides.

In the ten years after the gun laws there has been a 78% increase in firearm assaults, a 70% increase in firearm related homicides, a 236% increase in firearm related assault hospital discharges, and a 232% increase in assault related emergency room visits. Statistics are from the Mass Department of Public Health.

So why do you still support gun control laws for lawful citizens?

  • If Obama really thinks that it is good to redistribute the wealth why doesn't he practice what he preaches?

In 2005 and 2006 the Obamas took in 2.65 million and donated only $137,622. This equates to just a little more than the 4% he wants to raise taxes for his tax bracket. If he was really interested in spreading wealth wouldn't he be giving more of his money to charity? It seems like he wants other to give up their money, but he doesn't want to give up his. He has a lot more wealth to spread around than someone who makes $250,000 a year.

  • Should voting age be raised to 22?

Really my only problem is with those who are in college full time. I just read an article about kids who attend college in swing states registering to vote there. This can impact the election greatly. Anyone who is in or has been to college lately knows how far left professors lean and how vocal they are about their views. I feel that college students are very impressionable and tend to believe everything that is told to them by professors. This is fine when the topic is the professor's field, but not for politics. The fact is students really don't know how to vote on real world issues. They look at things from an ideological standpoint instead of what really happens in the real world. If they are not working full time and don't know what it is like to be in the real world then how can they have the knowledge necessary to vote. Another problem is the hostility that these students normally show to Republicans. Democrats can campaign at any college without any worries. Republicans have to worry about being attacked if they step foot on a campus. The nature of a college campus leads to group mentality/mob thinking and this makes it dangerous for Republicans to campaign there. I guess I have just been listening to college kids responses to these debates on NPR too much. Their lack of practical knowledge is a little scary.

  • De-evolution?

Is there such a thing as de-evolution and do you think that it is occuring. Especially in places like Europe and America with welfare systems the poorest and least adaptive are rewarded and actually reproduce the most. Since this essentially means that the weak are surviving is man kind going to experience some kind of de-evolution?

  • Partial birth abortion?

What ever happened relating to partial birth abortion in the Supreme Court. I know that last year it made it to the Supreme Court, but I never heard what there decision was. Did I miss something or did they just cop out and sweep the issue under the rug somehow. I know that Congress and Bush made it illegal a couple years ago, but it was challanged and everything was waiting until the Supreme Court decided. Someone help me.

  • Would you do this for your dog?

On New Years Eve I was over my friends house where we were having a party and had cooked a turkey. I was outside smoking a cigarette and one of my friends came outside and told me that my pitbull had swallowed a turkey bone before any of them could stop him. At first I didn't believe him, but he told me straight faced that he was serious. I called the dog out and stuck my finger down his throat until he threw up all over me and I saw the bone come out. It was one of the most disgusting things that I have ever done, but I didn't think twice about it because I didn't want the bone to hurt his digestive tract. I was just wondering if all of you dog owners would have done the same.

  • How much would you pay for this car?

I am thinking about selling my 1995 Honda delSol with 90,000 miles. Some pictures of it can be seen here http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j149/boarder700/ I have done the following to it: Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable struts, Neuspeed Race lowering springs, Upper and lower tie bars in the front and back, New paint in 2004, 17" wheels with Toyo Proxes tires, Custom mounted Infinity Kappa speakers with a Phoenix Gold amp, Kenwood CD player, New carpet, vinyl and apint in the interior, Custom mounted Optima yellow top battery relocated to the trunk, Cold air intake, Short throw shifter, Lots of other little stuff I cant think of now. I love this car, but I bought a BMW a few months ago and love it more. The car leaks a little bit through the trunk and targa top in the rain (nothing major) and has a reconstructed title. It runs perfectly and needs nothing. It is a very clean, respectable looking car for an import. Please let me know what you think and how much it is worth.

  • What is the affect of 10% ethanol on octane ratings?

What is the effect of 10% ethanol on octane ratings?

All gas stations where I live (Massachusetts) use 10% ethanol in all grades of gas. I want to know if anyone knows if this affects the octane rating at all. Ethanol has an octane rating of 110 so if they used 90% 87 octane and 10% 110 octane it would actually bring the octane to around mid grade level. I want to know if this is true or if the gas companies compansate for this and start off with even lower octane gas before they add the ethanol. If they dont then I should be able to run mid grade gas and get the full effect of premium.
