Has anyone had any luck using metformin to get pregnant with PCOS?

I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome a little over a year ago. We had been trying to get pregnant, and had finally been referred to an endocrinologist, who prescriged metformin/glucophage. Has anyone had any good/bad results with this?

Update:

metformin is used to treat diabetes and PCOS

Yes!!! Actually I was diagnosed with PCOS last year. I took metformin for 6 months and I am now 17 weeks pregnant. We only had to really try for 3 months! We had never been successful before, but that worked like a charm. Best of luck to you!

Two good friends have had positive results with metformin alone. I'm not pregnant yet, but it's likely that's due to my husband, who also has fertility concerns. With Meformin, I'm ovulating and having regular cycles. And even if I wasn't, I feel a thousand times better on the metformin than I did off of it, which is really nice. As great as metformin is, and as much as it can restore ovulatory cycles in women with PCOS, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study this week that says that Clomid may have better fertilty outcomes than metformin for women with PCOS. You may want to consider talking to your doctor about using both-the metformin can treat some of the symptoms of PCOS, and help maintain better health by controlling blood sugar issues, and the related complications, and the Clomid to induce ovulation and help you get pregnant. Good luck.

The only Metformin I know of, are tablets used to treat diabetes. Sure you got the right name?
