If Britain actively begins withdrawing troops from Iraq; how will the moral of our troops be affected?
Britain announced the setting of a time-table for troop withdrawal today over the objections of PM Blair. They will leave essential troops in high risk areas but the process will begin. How will an American GI deal with his comrades being pulled out knowing that PM Blair is against the process?
I was a Battalion XO during Desert Storm and an enlisted grunt in Viet Nam. I felt great knowing that other countries supported our cause. I agree, good for the Tommy's; but if I was in Iraq I believe I would be saddened to see them go.

Hello! Did you actually read about this. It is TONY BLAIR who will make the announcement on Wednesday for British troup withdrawal. By the way, the Brits are forcing him to leave office because of his involvement in Iraq and his buddy-up with Bush.
Sound familiar?
And, I think our troops will be glad to see the Brits go...it is one stop closer for them to leave. Do you actually believe our soldiers WANT to be there? If so, you are sadly mistaken. Mr. Bush has thrown our soldiers to the dogs and the dogs are eating them a few at a time.

They only have 7000 men over there to begin with. The US probably has that many on leave right now. The Basra sector is all Shiite. So there is not a lot of turmoil as in the Sunni triangle. Blair is pulling out 1700 men. Sounds like he is just sending home those due for a rotation, leave, or discharge. So it is largely a propaganda announcement for his own political gain.

It does no good to ask private citizens this question. Liberals and democrats will say bring them home and conservatives and republicans will say finish the job so they don't follow us here. The people you really need to ask are the men and women in uniform that are there and fighting. Some came home and volunteered to go back again because they believe in what they are doing. Remember that this is an all volunteer Army. The men and women fighting over there need to know that we support them particularly for morale reasons. It irritates me when someone says they do not believe in the war yet never served a day in the military, so what gives them the right? You truthfully need to ask them if they believe in what they are doing and want to finish the job. If you send them home now, will they be viewed by out enemies as being weak? Will it be viewed as a loss for America by the terroists? I personally believe that over 90% of the troops believe in their mission and in what they are doing and want to win. They want to come home to their family and friends with their heads held high with people proud of them and America. There is a reason they are called our fighting men and women and quitting or giving up is not really an option with them.

I think that personally its about time they are pulled out, along with all the other coalition forces over there, the Brits ONLY went in because they was trying to help out their allies, this [at higher levels] has not been greatly appreciated BUT at the grass roots level at least let the US troops know they was NOT alone, also you have got to remember that had it NOT been for the USA troop SHARING his equipment MANY of the UK troops would have come unstuck RAPIDLY..............the Brits went in totally unprepared, not the right boots, not enough food or facilities for them.............
At the lower level it may well have an impact on their morale BUT sadly think it will only fuel some of the idiots in the USA and serve their own agendas on forcing Bush to do something he is not ready / able to do..................
Regards

What do you mean if? The ape that is your President has already been informed by Tony Blair. On a more serious note : your supply line from Kuwait to Baghdad will be in much greater danger.
Maybe you Yanks should hesitate before slagging us Brits off for bad teeth and bad breath. Personally, I wouldn't shed a tear if the US army got hammered in Iraq over the next 2 years. It may teach you to be a more humble race.

To be honest with you I was in Iraq for a year and the only time I saw any Brits was once. I saw the Korean Army more often than the British. I'm sure thats not the case for all US military but personally It wouldn't bother me either way Good for them they get to go home!

Not at all! They are really not our comrades since they fight as British troops & we fight as American troops. We do not fight together as one troop. Our troops will be sorry to see them leave but they have hope of leaving soon themselves.
Although we have aided the British often & at great expense, we realize that Britian has only sent troops to show that we do not stand alone. This is not their fight as it really isn't ours. So the fact that they sent troops at all is an exceptional favor to us. One that is appreciated.

They'll probably laugh at the Brits tucking tail and running just like we are making fun of coward libs here in America.
