Why can't I see all my drives in My Computer folder?

I installed an used drive from an old pc that has some info on it that i want. All my hardware sees the drive, including hardware manager, but I can not read the drive for my old files. I use windows xp pro sp2 and my system is a dell dimension 8100

Update:

No viruses and all jumper are correct, like i said i can see the drive in devide manager but i cant edit anything on it.

the old pc was a HP pavilion xt963

same OS and no it did not crash

    Did your "old computer" happen to "crash" - stop working?

    *IF* so, your hard drive may be bad.........

    Is the old drive formatted with WinXP Pro also? If it is formatted with another OS (say Win98), It will not be able to read the drive. The hardware manager may 'see' the drive, but the OS will not be able to use it.

    i guess you should check the HD jumber, make one primary and the other slave (you will notice that on the HD itself) a configuration
