    I don't know if I've ever heard it used as a "nickname" except in Scripture - if you want to call it a nickname;

    Jesus Christ is our Morning Star - the Light.

    However, just like with so many other names and titles, Satan always copies Jesus - so it is with this - another one of Satans many names is "Morning Star", or Bright and morning star - which is the translation of Lucifer.

    Source(s): King James will suffice

    The name Lucifer is commonly tied to the biblical Satan. However, the name Lucifer does not appear in most versions of the Bible. Lucifer does appear once in the King James version in Isaiah 14:12, in which the King of Babylon is referenced as "Son of the Morning" ["Luci-Fer" in latin] (translated from the Hebrew "Helel ben Shahar," or "Praise! Son of the Dawn"). This is because Lucifer was originally the Latin term for the planet Venus, also known as the morning star. There is no direct link in the Bible between the entity known as "Satan" and the entity known as "Lucifer." It was at this time that the story of the "War in Heaven" was created. There is no mention of this myth in any Hebrew document

    Such stars at certain seasons of the year are the last stars to rise on the eastern horizon before the sun appears and thus are heralds of the dawn of a new day.

    Morning Star = Sun...bright light that wakes up at the crack of dawn, or someone who is smart.
